Before you go crazy and pull the starter make sure you got a good FULL battery. Also use your pull start and turn it over a bit and try electric start again. You might have a dead spot on the flywheel. Unlikely but try it.
If you do have to pull the starter then it is easier to pull the
Engine first because you have to almost dismantle half the machine to get it out. I believe you even have to loosen off the brake disk to fish it out so just pull the Engine. I have never done it in place myself but that is some of the info I remember reading on this site. I always just pull an Engine if there is an issue.
As for the starter walk through I think it is gona be straight foreword. Use a felt marker to make sure the ends line up with the center magnet and make sure the center faces the right way when it is all together. If I find some pics on my computer I will post.
