Yeah I need another project like I need another hole in my head but the reality of it all is with my kid driving I need another car for backup around here so I decided something that could be used both on and off-road would e cool, not many BAJA's around these parts even plain bugs that are not total rust buckets are hard to find, I found this one someone else already started, they installed 2 out of the "7 piece fiberglass BAJA kit"

I really have no clue about bugs but will learn, all I know about this one is its a 1970 Bug not a Super Beetle, it has the desirable IRS and the ball joint front suspension, it has seats out of a 74 Super Beetle that don't fit for shit they set too tall and even all the way back suck for my long lege, as you already seen it has a new 7 piece fiberglass Bug Eye kit, the Engine is a dual port 1600cc seems to run ok, carb need rebuilt the guy I bought it from gave me a carb kit for it.

I gave the wife a ride around the back yard had it up to 45 mph just getting into 3rd gear before running out of room and had to get on the brakes hard, the skinny tires are not much for traction all they did was spin most of the time I had to keep short shifting and backing off to keep it hooked up, hard not to laugh or giggle when running this thing around, the wife did no bitching, hmmmm strange  perhaps the key to getting her to offroad is a 2 seater?

First on the list will be to go over the car and get it mechanically sound then once it on the road and running top notch I will spend some time making it look better, as with any old car the first thing to look at is the brake system, I usually start by bleeding and inspecting for rusted lines, I will pull the drums and check wheel bearings too, my goal this week will be to patch up some of the larger rust holes in the floor pans and the side, sand down and treat the rusted areas with por 15 stuff, sand the whole car and get it into primer, install the BAJA kit, get all the lights working, in the future if I decide its a keeper the car will get new floor pans..

You got it, cool.

Now you'll get to use all those odd size metric wrenches and sockets you've never used.........,,11,13,15,16,18,36,42, etc.....

You'll get the best mileage with the stock carb and they're pretty east to rebuild. Our manx had a glass replaceable element fule filter with no element and the idle jet kept clogging on the previous owner, he couldn't figure it out and sold it pretty cheap because of that. I rebuilt the carb and voila, problem solved.

This one has a filter, you can see the spray nozzle its not giving a good shot of fuel when you pump it so the guy over adjusted the choke so it runs rich to compensate, he gave me a rebuild kit with the car guess he didnt have time or felt like rebuilding, he and his buddys have a bunch of VW projects in progress I should have taken pics, they have 2 that are going to be retro rat rods with the chopped tops, lowered, FORD front axles they looked pretty slick but only 1/2 done, another guy has a VW pickup he was getting ready to install the Engine in then start on the body...

As far as the floors, you can buy the patch kit pieces pretty inexpensively and patch them to look like new.

Thanks for the link and info...

What is the best way to raise this thing I would like to get it lifted and taller tires before it snows here, no doubt more ground clearance the better no matter where I will be offroading..

Front bumper modified (moved back 4") painted installed...

I still don't like the looks I will modify later, change lower mounts to be at a angle up not bent like the lower mounts on my Pilot bumper also will install a skid plate..

What you cant see is the lower beam supports I installed and the upper mount I fabricated and installed.

What you got for traction on the rear? They look the same as the fronts.

Fronts are 215/75/15 and the rears are 30/9.50/15 sizes were recommended by other baja owners hope I made the right choice heh, tires and rims cost more than the car lmao

I have seen a few things out there running around that the value doubled when filled with fuel.

Actually the bug is starting to look pretty good. Got a heater? Maybe air conditioning next summer......

Heat? good question heh... the car is a rust bucket so the heater channels thingies are all rusted out, currently I hooked up the hoses from the Engine to the heater boxes (box that covers the exhaust header pipe) and the tubes from the exit on the heater boxes to the bug body so any heat is blowing into the back under the seat, running it a few laps around the back yard their is some heat, their is a large rusted out hole in one of the heater boxes that I need to repair.

A/C yeah I am looking for all the parts and pieces needed to hook up factory A/C hopefully by summer I will have everything needed ..

I am looking for a rust free bug to transfer my good parts from I really don't want to invest too much time into this body since its so rusted, keep your eye out for one, needs to be a "Beetle" not a "Super Beetle" easy way to tell is the front suspension will be a strut like your Polaris quad had, the Beetle has J arms like your 350 Odyssey had.

I'll keep an eye, but most of them around here are done up like either classics or baja buggies. Wasn't one of them you were looking at somewhere near me......Yeah, Fort Collins I think.

I had a bug in HS and It was stock but a blast to drive... Mom and Dad wouldn't let me butcher it up LOL But it was a goat going anywhere, mufflers didn't last long mounted down low. Thye heat was incredible in this thing I remember that!!!`
