I have finally finished of my Farr 583 conversion and had her out for the first run on the weekend. Takes a lot to get here fired up but idles ok ones its going. But it has a terrible bog right off the hop and is rather heavy on the gas (may have ran out half way around the trail).
i'm in Saskatchewan and sitting about 1,700 feet up running here in the summer around 20c+. just wondering if anyone could help me out with what jetting they are running and carb setting? Shes running 38mm carbs.

Are you running an air box or oil injection?
I have a 583 in my Pilot and I can check my numbers.
I don’t have an air box and I run two 450r foam air filters into flatside carbs (I forget size) and I run the oil injection.

WATCH IT !!!
What kind of TM flats you got ??
There are at least 3 kinds that I know of and they got different jetting.
In fact there is a 100 point difference in the main jet between two of them.

Those must be two different plugs.

I'm presuming;
1. You used brand new plugs when you started, and now they look like pictured.
2. The phrase you mentioned, "Bog off the hop" is not clear for me, but I presume you have a rich condition and hesitation when trying to clear out; but the Engine does not stall. Don't confuse this with a lean stumble Engine stall as these conditions are two completely separate things. In this case, your pilot circuit seems a tad rich judging by your "bog off the hop" description and rich looking spark plugs.

Best thing you can possibly do right now is cut the threads off the sparks and post clear profile pictures showing the entire porcelain insulator.

Another great option would be for you to buy a WideBand O2 sensor for tuning quick and accurately. Search for a thread I started about this.

They are both BR9ES, one form the coil side and one form the PTO side.

Brand new plugs to start with and the plugs remover after a good ride out running around 1/3 to 1/2 throttle. The Engine has now had about 5 tanks of gas through it.

Yes sorry that is not the best chose of words to describe the problem.

So shes a pain to start even with giving her 3 pumps from the primer. I find the best is to hold the throttle down 1/8 and crank it over until it catches and hope it revs up, then high idle her for a bit to clear the cylinders. The bogging happens then you go to pull away from idle. I have to be very gradual on the throttle for the first 1/4 if that and let the revs gently pick up. Then i can put my thumb down ones it had revved up a little ways and the Oddy has motion. If i'm to quick on the throttle from a stand still then its just bogs and will die.

Right i shall cut them off tonight and post some pictures. I really should take the jets and needles out to identify what i have to start with. I have also contacted Emmanuel form Farr Offroad quite a few times to ask about jetting and set up but i still have no response.

i like the look of the O2 sensor and shall look in to getting one of them, good call.

Engine stalling completely from idle on slow throttle take-off usually means a lean condition. Also hard starting is also usually a lean condition. Get some new plugs. Idle Engine for 30 seconds. Check plugs for dryness/wetness.

Have you serviced, cleaned, and rebuilt the carbs?
