I found some perferated metal and made a grille/guard for the Drak's radiator. I think it will let enough air thru, what do you think.

Anything will reduce air flow...

All the drakarts run without a grill or screen in front of the radiators???

Yes, at least all the older ones, Ol blue had quite a few nicks in the fins on the radiator.

Alain made the frame you see, he has been putting screen on them, but I thought this would be better.

go here http://www.mcmaster.com/ page #365 & 366 to see how much you will restrict your airflow. you will be surprised how much it is. 1/4 inch holes...only 58% open. goes dramaticaly down after that. woven wire cloth would be a much better choice. start on page #352 for a listing and explanations of all available materials.

I would think a louver like the Pilot radiator and most dirt bikes have would be the least restrictive, we use metal with holes in it as baffles in HVAC systems to direct air flow to other areas but it is usually engineered into the system even then sometimes we have to go back and make changes and tweak it so the flow it right.

Thanks, you both are convincing me. In the catalog, they show a hexagon pattern that is 79% open, maybe that, louvers, or woven wire is what we need.

how hot was it running open, i would say if the fan can keep cool with what you have there, i would prefer to protect better and let the fan do its job as well, if the fan never runs, i don't see any reason you can restrict flow a bit, seems like that has a reather large rad to correct?

It was running 200-210 very steady, the weather was cool, around 60 degrees, I don't really remember if the fan was running much as I was having too much fun playing.

The fans were coming on after several full throttle runs and would turn off within a minute or so. I imagine with warmer temps they will stay on quite a bit longer. The good news is that I never saw above 210, and hope to never see it over 210 for that matter!

Looks good!

The Drakart emblem on the seat cover is a nice touch.
