Hello all, I have always wanted an Odyssey. I never thought I would be lucky enough to find a Pilot locally that I could afford. I am currently 35 so this has been a long wait. Well 2 Fridays ago my cousin called me and told me he saw a 1989 Pilot for sale about 10 minutes from my house and that he got the phone number. I was slow to call because I just knew the guy would want $4000+ for it. I finally decide to call him the following Tuesday. The guy said $1500. I could have fell out my chair. I went to look at it on Wednesday and picked it up the Friday for the $1500 asking price. I would rate it a 6 or 7 out of a 10. It does need a few repairs, but for $1500 I am happy as heck.

It has the following issues:

Right rear fender is broken.
Rear brake rotor and pads need replacing. They do work.
Front brakes are a little soft.
Tires are worn, but they do hold air.
Front wheels are bent.
Right rear outer cv boot is torn. no clicking noises.
Upper air box is missing.

I can't wait to get everything fixed and get out on the trail.

I figured it out. I just needed to resize them. I see this will be an expensive toy. I would love to replace all the bearings and little things before failure occurs. Oh yea, it also needs a new parking brake and choke cable. Hopefully I will be able to ride it seriously for the first time this weekend. I already told the wife that I will be gone most of the day.

The car used to be my baby. Now there is a new toy in the garage. Probably a good thing since I am the only 35 year old ricer in my area. All the young punks look at me like I am crazy.

I am still in shock. Everyday I tell the guys at work I can't believe I actually got a Pilot. They are extremely rare in this part of Virginia. My 7 and 9 year old love setting in it and watching me do donuts in the back yard. They have a little yerf dog kart, but I will have to upgrade them so we can ride together on my parents farm land.

My friends tried to get me to talk the guy down some. I just didn't feel right knowing that it was already under priced by a lot.

Ya know...it is missing 2 fenders...I'll give a grand for it right now... :-)

Looks nice...and you did steal that thing. Hope to see you at one of the East Coast Jams which is probably a 6-8hr ride for you, but they're def. worth the drive!

Congrats on the find!
Brooks

Looks like the Pilot is missing the wrist restraints you should look into replacements.

http://pilotodyssey.com/PO/viewtopic.php?t=2393

I see the mirrors are installed in the factory position I think they are more efficient if they are lowered, set in your Pilot look forward, your running down a tight trail 40 mph, now look in the mirror to see who is behind you, you have to look way up then left or right to see who is behind you, scary taking your eyes that far off the front huh.

NOW take the bars the mirrors mount to off and flip them end for end and install, now when you look in the mirror you just have to look left or right to see them allowing you to keep your focus more on the trail how ever if your a person of real short stature you might still be looking up a little but its much better.

You will also notice when getting in and out of the Pilot he mirrors are MORE out of the WAY and you reduce the chances of hitting your head on them, I have seen people break off a mirror $$$$ by hitting their head on them.

More tips and tricks to enhance your Pilot found here :-)

One of the mirrors is actually broken off already. i will be looking for a replacement soon. I found some nice wrist restraints at summit racing for 23.99. I will be ordering them in the near future along with all the other bad parts I have found. Even though the right outer joint is not clicking, it has a lot more play in it than the left side. The boot must have been torn for a while. I see that could be a $400 fix. I am hoping to not have to spend more than $1000 to fix everything.
