hey,

trying to get a bit more power out of my fl250 by using a 38mm carb i have for it. Ive started making a maniflod out of 8mm flat plate and some gal tubing. I was just thinking, will the distance between the carb and the piston have any torque or power differences??? anyone ever experimented with this before? ill post some pics when i get around to it tomorrow.

thanks, any suggestions welcome.

Any pictures on what your planning to do?

You want to maintain rubber isolation between the carb and Engine, you don't want the Engine vibration, harmonics to upset the fuel in the carb you will have delivery problems.

38mm is a bit large for all but the fully modified FL250's then the full mod 250's had reed cages welded on the cylinder as parts of their redesign to create the requirements of a larger carb.

Mossbarger use to make a bolt on reed cage. http://www.mossbargerracing.com/

hey thanks for th reply,

i ve bought some silicone rubber tube the right size. the fl250 has some port work done, and has been resleved with an over bore. I guess ill find out if the cab is too big when i get to it. ill try to post some pics tomorrow after school. I have a 73' cr cylinder which i want to get the reedcage for, but just don't have the money to import parts to australia at the moment. i was thinking ill make two manifolds, a short one and a long one. see if there is any difference in performance...

thanks josh...

Yeah post some pics I might be able to help you with the manifold for the older cylinder but need to see it first.

hi
i would suggest IMO the items in order of importance to make the fl250 run better

aftermarket clutchs - adjusted to maximize the hp produced by your Engine
aftermarket pipe - to let it breath better
i think with out these first you are wasting your time with a bigger carb
if you can find a 73/74 cr250 cylinder.

i think mossbarger still makes reedcages for both the fl250 and cr250 cylinders

you might look at this link

hey,

its all finnished now. i decided to keep the maniflod the same length as stock to save me some trouble lol. i need to change the float level and buy a smaller main jet and tune it properly. Even though its running a bit rich, the power difference is big. At the moment its now as resposive as i had it with the stock carb, but the bottom end torque is far better and it sounds like its pulling about 500 extra revs. im looking into buying a clutch, but don't know whats good any one got advise? i wanna get new pipe too but i don't really want to spend 500 dollars on something i cant use every day lol.

thanks...
josh

cant post pics yet cause my computer is running slow lol sorry....

The 94 C is a great clutch for a FL250, OldmanOdy can advise here too.

Sledpartsguy on ebay has good prices on them.

josh

ive tuned it now and it is very responsive and has a crap load more grunt than before, its nearly popping wheelies when i stall it up and mash the throttle. im just hoping i don't fry the tires too much lol. only problem is the idol air fuel mixture, i just cant get it right. the midrange and top end are perfect. i had a look
on usa ebay and found a 94c but it says i need the aftermaket driven clutch as well. are there any clutches out there that use the stock belt width so i can keep the stock driven?

cheers josh
