I have some pictures of the job I had on this axle... I need a bigger "shop" as my little storage shed was not designed for me working on this thing inside of here... If I had a set of good tools and a shop I would be dangerous!!! I even managed to trip on an extension cord and bust my butt falling out of the shed!!!
All in all this is an easy fix. The hardest part was removing the old axle at the tranny... I had stripped the bolt the last time I replaced my transmission so I had to cut the nut off the face of the axle. These are bolted around the output shaft, with one side of the housing being tapped and then a retaining nut is placed on the extruding thread. I had a real easy time removing the what looked to be original bearings (at least oem) and dust seals. I might have even been able to just plug and play if this had been done in the field. I figured while I was at it, I'd put new bearings in.. They tapped right out with a wooden hammer handle pushing out and I was able to tap them in with a new rubber mallet. Probly not best way of doing the job, but I don't have a lot of tools and a shop yet... The dust seals were pushed in by hand!!! Ouch on the arthoritis but I didn't want to tear these up!!! the rest was pretty simple even for me!!!
I am waiting for a replacement bolt for the top eye on my shocks from Randy. Seems I lost this somewhere along with a pair of rubber rezzie grommets for between the frame and rezzie... besides that She should be ready to ride soon!!! I will order another axle for the other side after the holiday's...

File comment: These are the tires I will put back on. A real close match to the stock but in a 22" These are about 1.5 inches taller than the holeshots. I wish they made these in a 24"!!!

I wonder if the 25X12X10 will fit the Pilot without rubbing?

Any idea if they are any good in sand?

Which ones do you have? The ones in the link? I try real hard to stay away from Water (IN THE ODYSSEY, I do shower every Saturday night!!!) but in your NW corner the rain is abundant!!!

I have those Kenda Dirt Dogs on my stock pilot. Mine are 24x11x10. They're a close match in terms of the size for stock tires. I use them for both dirt and sand riding. My only complaint is that they tend to cause the back end to drift around at high speeds in the dirt. Like when you're flying down a long straight fire road. Takes a little getting used to.

Do you think the 25x12x10 tires will fit the Pilot or will they rub the shock?

Your using the stock rims?

It's hard to say if they'll rub or not... I'm using Red Labels. I'll upload a couple pics when I get home tonight.

I would like to try the 25" on my Pilot any idea if the rims your using have the same offset as the stock rims?

Looking at the pics their is plenty of clearance.

Can you measure how tall the lugs are on your tires or they pretty worn?

I'm fairly certain that the rims are 8" with 5 outside & 3 inside. The tires have a few miles on them. Near the outside the lugs are about 7/16" tall. The distance between the tire and the shock is about 2".

You know... I have about the same clearance between the tires and the shocks on my LT Pilot . Still, I just put on a new pair of shockwears; took it to a race; and afterwards was surprised to see that the tires were making contact. I think the sidewalls must be expanding when I land jumps? Anyway, I won't be running anything wider than 11" on it. Something to consider...
