I picked up a 81-84 Engine off ebay since it went cheap, just got it in the mail today, I really don't have time for another project but could not pass it up.

At a first look the cases all look undamaged, it looks like its never had a chain break and hit the cases, the shift lever shaft has had a shifter welded to it at one time or another so the shaft will need replaced.

When get some time I will split the cases and see if its rebuildable, the rod is lose so I know it needs another rod or crank, normally I would just shelf this and rebuild if I ever need it but replacement parts I am sure are getting harder to find so I guess I better split the cases and see what it needs and find parts ASAP, I can rebuild then box up and put it on the shelf.

I removed the clutch cover and discovered someone replaced the O ring used to seal the cover with silicone haha

The guy complained he lost money on shipping... why would you ship the Engine with the oil in it?

No chain damage.

Lots of miss matched case bolts.

This Engine has an internal balancer like the Pilot and 350 Ody, case looks good.

Under flywheel cover is the usual rust.

Red paint on Engine means it is a 81-82

Flywheel pulled right off using the right puller.

Normal rust inside, that light layer of rust is just enough to make a no spark condition, clean it up and install presto spark again.

File comment: I don't think anything below the flywheel has been apart before.

Drain bolt, the aluminum gasket is way beyond its useful life, this Engine has seen many oil changes hopefully it looks like it when I split the cases too heh

Nice.

Hopefully the insides are as good and clean as you're hoping they are.

I have yet to crack into the complete '84 Engine I got with the 300R kit, the original black paint is still in great shape though so hopefully it's in decent condition, but like yours, it was cheap and I couldn't pass it up.
