instead of using the stock cylinder you use a 1973-74 cr250 cylinder and head. it bolts right on (cr250 and mt250's had the same basic cylinder just the cr250 has much much larger ports, the mt250 is what the odyssey Engine was based on uses the exact same cylinder and head and carb) cr250 makes much more power very noticeable. you need a cylinder, head, intake manifold, and 34-36mm carb. everything bolts right on. only thing that needs to get modified is the stator, you want to run different timing so you have to elongate the 3 holes for the screws in the stator and rotate it slightly. that's it . I have them on both of my odysseys. I have some spare cr250 parts as well as others do here and the rest you can get on ebay. you are probably looking at around $150-200 for all the parts and makes more power than anything else you can do to the fl250 besides swapping a sled motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )).

Is the power that noticable? I have already sent out my old cylinder for a new bore. I also have to buy a new intake because the one I have has a tear which created this mess!

Brandon,

I have not packed and shipped the Cyl. Too late on Friday and UPS does not pickup on weekends. Let me know if you are going CR250 route.

I went to Harbor Freight today! WOW I was like a kid in a candy store.

I bought all kinds of stuff!
I got home and popped off the stator using my new impact screwdriver.
Then I removed the drive pulley using my air impact and new sockets.

Now I just need to split the crank housing which is not coming apart and I am also having issues with one of the rings holding the piston on.

I pm'd you . oldmanody has the cr250 cylinder on his as well. I think its a big difference. if you are sending it to hoser he can drill holes in the cylinder for a reed valve. the reed valve replaces the intake manifold which is hard to find. odysseysalvage sells them I think its $160. either way, with or without reeds its more power.

Brandon,

Clean up those case halves real good! You can use carb cleaner and shop towels.

Also remove all of the gasket material carefully. I soak it with the carb cleaner and very carefully use a single sided razor blade to scrape it off. You must be very careful not to gouge the aluminum or you will spend lots of time lapping the cases to prep the surfaces. Patience is necessary for this step.

Don't worry about getting the bearings out of the case. We can do that when you bring all of the parts over. Just have everything real clean so we can spend our time assembling.

Greg

the 73/74 cr cylinder does not need to be drilled for the mossbarger reed valve

just a thought

i would recommend to lap all the gasket surfaces.you have it all apart and its not hard to do.and it gives you piece of mind out on the trail knowing that everything was done right.just my two cents

take a piece of plate glass tape some 400 grit wet dry paper to the glass spray with wd40 and in a slow circular motion lap/sand all the gasket surfaces until there nice and flat again.i recommend using at least a 1/4 thick piece.if you dig around in the forums hoser has a good read on lapping.

Ok here are some pics of the cleaned halves. I scraped as much of the gasket off as I could didn't want to go overboard.

Here are the pics of the gasket that I could not get off:

Pics of the inside of the halves:

I took a lot of pictures but these are the only good ones.
