While I was in NM and riding with scpilot66 and friends (add link here later) I stopped by scpilot66's automotive shop and picked up his wife's Pilot Engine he wanted me to CSI and to rebuild for him, he had the diagnoses correct the crank seal was leaking on the clutch side, sucked air then poofkaboom.

Will have to locate other pics and come back and add think they are on other camera or computer.

Some pics of the cases split, can anybody see another problem in this pic that has nothing to do with the crank seal being bad?

The crank cases were clean checked, I did my usual modifications to the oil passages to provide better flow to the crank bearings and to the balancer bearings in the balancer case.

It looks like the retainer that holds the balls in is starting to come loose. Didnt the group see a number of failures a few year back where the entire retainer failed

Good eye, the bearing cage is missing 4 of the rivets.

Hoser, you going to use that NISSAN bearing that you found for the Engine?

I had Hoser install the Nissan bearing in my Engine, so far so good. (knock on wood, fingers crossed)

With that bearing retainer coming loose, I'd say someone got very lucky. If the entire retainer broke loose it could have easily ended in a very bad day for that Engine...

Do you think they came loose or where they missed in manufacturing?

Yeah this bearing was dangerously close to failure like we have seen many times before on the Pilot crank bearings, I have been a victim of this a few times myself.

First the heads falls off the rivets then the bearing separator is no longer keeping the balls properly spaced out then nasty things starts to happen.

Is it the right or left Honda bearing that seems to loose the rivits?

The right side bearing is the S6306 - the S indicates special - part # 91033-HE0-005. it is special because it has a ID of 32mm. This is the one that we are buying the Nissan bearing for.

A standard 6306 bearing has a ID of 30mm.

The bearing in the picture with the missing rivets has 6306 on it so I believe it is the standard bearing - the one that goes on the left of the crank part # 91032-HE0-000.

Way not just purchase the standard bearing and send it to your local grind shop to be id ground
it can not be that much if you have them grind in bulk lots

2mm = .07874 " or .03937 per side

Just for shits and giggles, what are the dimensions on that S6306 bearing? I wanna call my bearing house guy and see what he has to say. That guys seems to know everything about bearings and where to find them.
