Before moving on the clutch system sub assembly is assembled, inventoried put into a zip loc bag then put into the parts box with the rest of the parts so nothing is lost.

More pics of the carnage caused by a broken chain.

This happens when owners are too stupid or too lazy or too tight to replace their chain and sprockets, anybody that owns a motorcycle or ATV that is chain driven needs to budget a new chain and sprockets for each riding season, at the end of each season install a fresh chain and sprockets and NEVER have these problems while your changing them inspect and or replace the rear axle bearings.

"Case savers" are for people too stupid to inspect and recognize they need to change their chain and sprockets, my first ATV was a 1971 ATC 90 I have been a ATV motorcycle owner since 1973 I have never broke a chain I have never damaged a machine because of a bad chain or sprocket I learned by watching other destroy their machines haha.

Here is where the cases were rubbing the frame or swing arm because the Engine mounts were broken.

Hoser, I am terribly sorry for the coolant spill, I thought I had drained it completely before I sent it over to you. My apologies to you.
Are the cases even trx cases or are they atc cases?, I might just go ahead and purchase a new set from Pilotpete for this project with all that weld repair and chain side case damage.

That would be up to you I thought you were going to use that other Engine so I put this one on the back burner for now, with last weeks heat I pretty much worked showered ate then slept hope to get back on this Engine later this week.

Looking at the outside I really see no reason why not to use the cases again wanted to see what they look like inside in the area where the shifter shaft comes out since they put a gob of silicone around the seal and the shaft, also where the cases are worn against the frame or swing arm, can build that area back up with JB weld wanted to see if their was a structural issue in the worn areas, looks all cosmetic to me.

I would love to of coarse use a fresh Engine instead of the 2nd option which is the used 1 I have here, I was going to install it (the spare Engine)when applicable in the ride when it was assemblied in case this 1 is not rebuilt in time. I can wait for it as I understand your working again and I know exactly how you feel with the heat-I am out there in it all day as well and by the time I get home same thing for me shower and bed these days too!
If I can re use the cases that's great-save me a little cash for other items needed for the project so let me know.

Clutch basket is TOAST. Let me know what your price on a replacement is, 'cuz the local Honda shop here (HondaEastofToledo.com) has hooked me up with LT500R baskets...$208 for Hinson and ~$225 for factory. TRX's are more popular than the Zilla, so will likely be cheaper yet. That is...as long as the hub, pressure plate, and drive gear are still good.

I never understood why the clutch basket is the wear item rather than the clutch disc fingers (??).

Looks like the Hinson "Billet Proof" basket and the stock hub have "a groovy kind of love" going on (classic Phil Collins, lol). Clutch plates look okay w/ some life left, eh?

Gotta' love all the Skillbilly stuff to keep an Engine together. Even though it would've prob cost them less then $10 to do it right!

***Edit: Whoops, would've helped if I noticed there was a 2nd page of CSI! Der! lol ***

There was a trx250r Engine on eBay with a pilot top end
Did you bid on it?
