Dave-co 5/1600 here is some shots of my Baja you asked for hoser, very very proven simple design, very lite but strong, most of the cage is 065 4130 except the main hoops are 095 as required by Score and Snore, More Best in the dez etc. Bob Geise supplies the Engine, he built many a Baja bug in the 70s and early 80s, then got scooped up by Toyotas TRD, and was the builder of Ivan Stewarts Toyota Trophy truck engines. Bob just recently retired from TRD and has started his Vw Engine building again. Bob is the originator of the oil cooler scoop found on the top of my bug and a great many class 5 and 5/1600 cars have run this scoop over the years. I personally think it is ugly LOL but it does the job very well. What ever you see in metal including the front trailing arms, the spindles and rear arms were all built by me in my garage and I have several dozen sets running on a lot of Vw based race cars. Some have all the money to buy what ever they need, I never have been made of money and had to desing and build my own things if I wanted to race. Also posted my 1600 pre run car up on my buggy rack I built onto my 89 F 350, I did all the aluminum as well as the chassie and suspension, you name it I made it darn near. Also is one of 3 of my 1600 race cars, I bought the red frame and did extensiveness to it and have had great sucsess with it over the years in desert racing. The little buggy sitting on the cement is strictly a short course 1600 car or as they call them now single buggy. I bought the car off of a friend and have done nothing to it as yet. Hope you enjoy the shots, one car I dint photo is my 2 seat 1600 because it is tied up under a tarp.

I ment to post a photo of my class 11 stock Vw sedan, I have won over 25 grand with that car the last few years, with very little expence to maintain. will post it tomorrow. Hope you like them, learned a long time ago that paint does not win races. The Baja is starting to get surface rust so its time to brake out the scotch bright. The 89 ford I bought new in 89 with a 351, today it sports a 97 power stroke diesel that I put in it 5 years ago!! Runs like new and pulls 3 cars, 1 on the rack and a double trailer with 40 inch tires just fine!! The 4 seat pre runner is set up identicle to a 1600 racecar to the old rules and is like the energizer bunny, it has run everywhere on the Baja 1000 race courses many many times as well as every other place I race my 1600 cars. It has a full race 091 gearbox with a bone stock Vw 1600 Engine that can run on pemex if I need to. With the stock cam it pulls like a tractor threw all 4 close ratio gears. It runs a 14 inch and a 12 inch shock in the rear with 1 inch longer arm it gets about 16 inches of travel in back and about 9 in front. It has power steering, 4 PRP seats and is a lot of fun to drive. Car never seems to get anything done to it, just gas and oil LOL

I have had my eye out for retired race Baja or class 11 for a long time I want to put glass in it and lights then use it on the street and dirt just havent found the right one at the right price.

Until then I have my kid installing a 3" body lift on my 73 Standard Beetle going to throw some 7 x15 snow tires on it and play, its all stock 1600 DP Engine, already regretting the body lift wish I went with the raised spindles.

That is a Genesis car Cory Friday was driving it was built by a buggy builder that lived in Wisconsin he built like 6 cars then went back to building bigger buggies he wanted to build enough cars to make a class. http://www.pilotodyssey.com/PO/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2332&start=0

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Hoser it is really easy to cut and turn the front end, I do 5/8 top and bottom tube on my class 11s and it works perfect with the Vw leafs up front. Any info you need let me know, this is my 38th year racing limited cars.

Whats the welding helmet on the roof of the Baja kinda looks like mine I have a Speedglas 14-0099-35 with the Speedglas 9000X Lens it also came with the fresh air kit that has the backpack with hose filter blower battery back charger etc. but that was all stripped off and just use the helmet alone.
