Here is my install of my FMF Q2 Silencer. I bent and expanded a piece of stainless steel pipe, and welded it on to the end of the housing. I then cut off the original mounts on the housing, and welded on a new mount. It all bolts up to the stock mounting brackets. It sounds alot deeper, and quieter. Idle is at 94db, and at 2500 rpm it is 102db. Quieter=Yes, Legal=I don't know.

Are you sure that it is a Q? Looking at the decal it doesn't look like a Q model. Did you cut off the two brackets and reweld them back on? If you did, nice job. It looks like the plain Turbine Core II not the Turbine Core IIQ. The Q model has a big red Q on the side of it.

I had the local shop order me a Q2, and this is what they gave me. They said this was a Q, but as I see now , which is my mistake for listening to them, is it is a Turbine2 and not a Q2. They said it was a Q which must be a version of Turbine2. Well maybe that is why the dbs aren't that low. I quess all this work was for nothing, and I have a long talk with the shop manager tomorrow!!! Live and learn right!!

Oh man I feel you pain. I know the work involved in putting it on, plus all the welding you did. It looks good. If your shop doesn't make good on it maybe give FMF a call and explain what happened and the might sell you the internal Q guts. Just a thought, good luck.

MGR,
Which of the following did you use? On FMF's wedsite they have a turbine core 2, but i can't find a turbine core 2Q. All i can find is this with the Q on it, but it doesn't mention turbine core: http://www.fmfracing.com/products/catal ... mID=020492
Here is a link to the one that actually states turbine core: http://www.fmfracing.com/products/catal ... mID=020329

The phrase Turbine Core II is just for the type of spark arrester that is inside of it. The Turbine Core II Q is a different series.
The Rocky Mountain http://rockymountainatv.com part number is FM02-0492
1-800-336-5437

Ultimate Bob it looks like they also sell the Turbine Core II Q pillow pack that goes inside of it. It is showing $22.45. This might help you salvage your silencer. Part number 011-394, this is also from Rocky Mountain http://rockymountainatv.com. It looks like your end cap in different too. Maybe FMF sells that direct, check their web site.

On the FMF web site they are listed under the "Q"

MGR,
Thanks for the clarification. I just wanted to make sure I got the right one before I plunked down $140 for a silencer.

If anyone has a FMF catalog, check the parts section for their silencers. Ultimate Bob, it looks like all the parts needed to make a "Q" are available. This way you wouldn't have to buy an entire new silencer.

I called FMF, and they said the inside design is different and is not interchangeable. So after talking it over with the shop, they ordered the wrong part number, they will eat the mistake and get me the right one. Only thing is now I have to make another one ,but I can at least use the same stainless pipe I just made. Oh well, like I said earlier, Live and Learn!!!

OK, now I'm finally done with the FMF Q silencer install. The Q silencer is about 2.5" longer than the Turbine Core II silencer that they first gave me. The install looks the same, since I was able to use the same bent pipe section from the first install. My readings were also alittle off in the first replies. The true readings for the FMF Q silencer on my Pilot right now are IDLE=94dbs, 2500 rpm=100dbs. This one is quieter, and let me tell you, after a good 45 minute ride without any ear protection, I have no ringing in my ears like I had before. Thanks for bringing the mistake to my attention MGR, who knows how long I would have fought with the wrong silencer before I realized what had happened. Pictures do say a thousand words!!!! :-)

Some things I have found out about playing around with this stupid dbl ratings and spark arrester game is, altitude makes a difference. I live in Chicago about 600 ft., if you live in higher altitude you will have a higher dbl reading (thinner air), The brand of pipe makes a difference, thinner metal - heavier wall. Your PT pipe is a thin wall pipe. You have a way to check dbls so walk around your pilot and check it at all angles. Check around your head pipe area and see how much pipe noise you are putting out. Good points about the Q silencer are the more your run it and the hotter it gets, it does not gain dbls. When you did your readings was your motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) totally warmed up. A cold Engine makes more noise. This we learned at Silver Lake, we have to sit in the parking lot and let the motors totally warm up before we go through the check point. If you motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) was jetted for you old silencer, get some run time on it and you should find that you can rejet now. A fat motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) makes more noise. Hope you like it, this will help us all to keep our riding areas open.

Get some header wrap from summit racing and wrap your aftermarket pipe and rejet your carb. It will run as well or better and you'll drop major db.

Dampening bracket is stock Honda Pilot exhaust system mounts, cant help you with the performance question someone that runs them will have to answer, how ever I don't recall hearing any complaints on power loss or bragging on performance gains.

I can't really comment on the performance gains due to the number of changes done prior to this install. I can say that it is about 20 db quieter than the ATV Racing Stinger "Silencer" with Cobra Sparky that I was running.

I just ordered another Q silencer for Pilot#2 and will be placing the 2 ATV Racing silencers I have up in the For Sale section if anyone is interested?

What was dunebob running on his TRX to pass sound at SL, mine has a new FMF pipe but short loud silencer I assume they don't run the stock exhaust? I would like to get something that will pass the SL test if I can.

He runs the FMF Q Silencers on both the 250R and the Banshees... both past the sounds test last summer with 93 and 94dbs respectively.
