Challenger Rear Shocks

Below is one of the Challengers rear shocks broken down into pieces, I took it apart
after trying to adjust the spring tension adjusters to give the shocks more spring pre load
in the process 2 of the cast aluminum adjusters broke off.

Collapsed length is 14-3/8" eye to eye and fully extended it is 16-7/8 eye to eye.

The aluminum piece on the shaft is what limits the travel of this shock, their is a rubber
bumper on one end to absorb the energy and to prevent metal to metal contact with the
body of the shock.

The writing on theses shocks is as follows L-525-11 below that is S&W (Stewart Warner would
be my guess) below that is Monroe then what looks like a part number C7D76

I made a new spacer to replace the broken adjuster, it is fixed so all adjustments will have
to be made on the other shock.
The springs free length measures 11" the wire diameter is .270 and the center to center
distance of the coils is .850

The broken spacer is the part with the yellow paint on the inside.

Home made spring compressor, pretty basic but does the job nicely.

Update 3-21-02 Added 2 more shocks to help control the compression and rebound
 check it out!
