Nice!

Are the upper mounts too strong?

We have had this bumper discussion many times since the LIEwire bumper fiasco http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9epoTz5pfm0 You seem to be a bright and civilized human open to new ideas so perhaps we should discuss them again?

I took some pics of the upper mounts on a stock Pilot front bumper and the front bumper I fabricated for my Pilot.

First the Stock Pilot bumper mounts, they are pretty much sheet metal that is design to give, IMO they give too easily, you can kick the bumper real hard with your foot and make it move, when you hit something harder it pushes the bumper to the frame.

Here are pics of the bumper I built, after seeing KIOWA smash a few of the bumpers I built him I think the upper mounts you see in these pics might be slightly too strong, they are made of 1/8" material, I will be taking the bumper off to repaint it when I do I am going to take a cut wheel and score the upper mounts to thin out the metal and provide a weak point for them to bend if I ever hit something.

Hello
prototype 3
After seeing pic's of other bumpers I felt that the bumper was going to be to stiff
and not to be able to collapse.
So this is what I came up with
four 1/8" thick plates that hold the front bar all together
spacers can be added to make it more stiff .
I'm planing on putting a strap in front of both 1/8" plates to box them in
for mounting a skid plate

Thanks For looking
Speed Chaser

That is very good looking, I especially like the approach angle, looks much safer than the stock bumper's.

Sweet!

That is some pretty impressive fab work Speedchaser!

I keep getting more and more "thoughts" of building my own buggy to have a try at fab work.

Very impressed.

No it would have to be a single seat car. I'd end up doing something stupid with my son in the car and regret it. I still plan on getting a RZR or the like for the 2 seat thing. I'd basicly make something similar to my Drak with 4 stroke power and a REAL frame. I need to track down most of the parts before I really give it much more thought.

Very nice Speed.Well done Mate!
But a bigger one would look nicer on the front of my racing Drakart! :-)
AND even BIGGER ones for Tom's and Hoosier's buggies to suit their driving style! :-)

I may be asking too much here, but, would you be willing to give me the plans to make one of your front bumpers for the 350?

If not, I understand. It's just that the design is great & would cost a bit too much in shipping from the US.

Cheers .

Hello I will Post the centers brackets plans on forum
the other is self done bottom bar can be had from stock bumper witch is 1-3/4" Diameter
the top bar can be made to your taste top diameter is 2" approximately 29-1/4" long

thanks SpeedChaser

The pdf template will print out full scale
Go to File
Print
Page Scaling (( NONE ))
the 3 1/4" holes are there to hold them all together
about 7/8" a part I used 7/8" nut as temporary spacers.
there are four plates needed for one bumper.
I used the frame of the fl350 as a fixture to weld it all together

thanks SpeedChaser

make some bracket for a skid plat mount

Note the brackets only bolt on one side of the bracket so the bumper can still collapse
