**** Dune Dart ***** Ha ha ha, that's some funny sh*t..... I like the name, so Dune Dart it is....
First off this was an amazing trip, and meet some really nice people and had a great time.......
My nephew Manny borrowed a truck from a friend on friday night and we loaded up and headed for Dumont Dunes.... While driving I noticed the
Engine had a slight miss and the fuel gauge wasn't working.... We filled it full of gas and calculated that we would have enough for the trip, while
we were driving the headlights would intermittantly shut off.... We laughed and joked about the the truck and told each other just as long as we
get there and ride we didn't care... ( boy did we eat those words on the way home ) ...lol
We arrived Dumont around 8 and were greeted by everyone there and we unloaded and set up camp and went for a late night ride.....
Saturday morning rolled around and Rusty, Manny and I went for a morning ride and I was following Rusty and I thought he was going full bore
over the the dune ahead, I wasn't to far behind him so I thought It would be a good idea to jump over the dune..... Little did I know It was a
giant razorback on the other side.... I Dune Darted through the air and flew off atleast a 25 ft drop and nose dived into the sand and the ody did
two violent flips and landed on it's wheels..... All I can say is Honda made one hell of a machine to be able to take that kind of abuse and not
even get a scratch.... Good thing for seatbelts and helmets, a little sore neck and bruises and that's it.....
Later on, we all went for a group and we were covering alot of sand in a hurry..... I was chasing 3 pilots when all of a sudden there was a big washout ahead and when I hit it, the rear end of the ody decided it wanted to go up and over.... Eventually it landed on it's side... I got out and nothing happend to the ody and off we.... About 20 min later Rusty rolled his, Ill let him give the details....
We went on a few more rides that day with out any incidence......
Sunday got up and went for a little morning ride and had a great time.... We loaded up and headed for home... About 30 miles from Baker we ran out of gas, after a little hike we were on our way again.... But about 30 min after that is when the sh*t hit the fan.... We blew the lower radiator hose and overheated... I took the lower radiator hose off and was able to cut the bad part out and make it fit... We filled it back up with water and drove about 15 min and the water just boiled back out.... To make a long story short about every 15 to 20 min we had to fill it back up.... It took us which should of been a 4 hour ride into a 16 journey..... I new I was gonna eat them words...lol
All in All it was an amazing trip, I would do it again in a heart beat, meet a good group of people and did some amazing riding....
Can't wait for the next trip.... Toby aka ( DUNE DART )
