It is on a 78 points style model. Put a brand new ignition coil in about a month ago and had great spark. It was running great and all of a sudden it just died at half throttle. Timing is spot on and the points are good. Stator coil has a little oil residue on it. wondering if this killed it? Anyway how do I test it to know if it is bad? I have a ohm meter.

The one I got doesn't show anything on it and the factory one shows using a complicated tester that I don't have access to. They prob don't even make one like it anymore. I get continuity through it but have no clue what the resistance should be.

Took the stator coil and soaked it in solvent overnight to get the oil residue off put it back together and got spark again. thinking the residue might have been grounding it out.
