I am in the process of dialing in a 102c drive clutch for a CR500 Pilot and I thought I might need to look at the driven clutch as well. I was concerned that the driven clutch might be spreading too early with the extra torque of the 500 Engine?? So I took a couple videos of the drive and driven of the CR500 Pilot and also of a FL400 Pilot. Both have the same rear tires mounted with same tire pressure. Each video shows running from 0 to about 50 for the first run, then the next run is 0 to about 25, next run is 0 to about 40 then the last run is 0 to 50 again. I put my hand in front of the lens right before each run to mark the video. Anyhow it looks like the 500 is shifting ok?? however the 400 looks like the driven is shifting to early, does this mean the spring is weak, would spring spacers help in this situation??

Most clutch tuning manuals say to up shift at peak torque I found faster acceleration up-shifting before peak torque. This works great for sleds with that 200lb track your trying to spin up with 40 square feet of contact patch your trying to spin up little tires with 1 SF contact patch

Way I like to clutch tune is to get it to up shift so fast out of a tight turn it bogs then slow the up-shift from that point until it pulls hard.

Yes Lonn at Thunder said to shift at peak torque but his website looks like he deals in sled clutches so sounds like maybe hes not thinking in terms of spinning tires just spinning tracks.

When you say "Way I like to clutch tune is to get it to up shift so fast out of a tight turn it bogs then slow the up-shift from that point until it pulls hard" Can you explain this so I can understand, lol. I think I understand that when you say "upshift so fast out of a tight turn it bogs", your saying that the drive clutch squeezes the belt higher on the clutch faces out of a tight turn until it bogs? Is that what your saying? Thanks

The Engine bogs because its shifting up into a higher gear too fast

Ok.... then slow the up-shift from that point until it pulls hard. Just remove weight to slow upshift,, cool.

On the FL400 video, Does it look like I might need to check my spring tension on the driven and compare to the manual for being in spec, luckily that clutch is easy to pull. I cant seem to get my 500 driven clutch bolt to break loose but that's in another thread  !
