Quick question....guy wants to trade me a set of rear fox shocks for an tranny side axle.stub...his broke off right at the tranny. I have an extra set of axles with stubs that I wanna hold onto in case I need them, like everyone else. Don't think I'm gonna trade forms used pair of shocks, but just for the hell of it...what are axles and stubs worth?

Hmm just looked on partzilla and looks like the stub/inboard joint is still available? Csn anyone tell me for sure whether they are or not ?One of the axles I have is missing the ball bearings out of the inner cage as well. I don't see a part number for a new cage or bearings. The circlip that holds it in is missing also. In see on eBay they sell rebuild kits for the inner and outer cvs that come with bearings and cages but no circlip...had anyone tried these and I thought the outer CV wasn't rebuildable?

I bought a new oem inner stub and it includes all the guts. I recommend buying 2 inner cups from Honda while you still can and buying the outer rebuild kits from Rockford. that is about as close as you will get to new axles. That was my plan until afastcar was nice enough to sell me a new oem axle. plus the one I got from Honda. another big piece of the puzzle is the final shaft. chances are if the splines on the inner cup are messed up so will be the splines on the final. Pilotpete came through with the final for me years ago. If you find and new oem axles or a final, be prepared to pay an arm and a leg. probably will be worse then the side panel prices.

Exatly what I wanted to hear...did it come with the set rings also when u bought the stub? Or do you know if you can get them anywhere? My finals are actually in good shape as well as the stubs...just the guts on the one side are partly missing....appears somebody tried pulling axle by using the axle as a slide hammer till the set ring broke and the balls went flying.... I found 5 of the balls and the cage is OK....just missing one ball and the set ring...lol

Take a ball and the stub with you to a local axle shop see if they have a ball and a clip to fit the end of the axle? someone must have clips that fit if not will have to use some sort of a adhesive alternative I bet loctite has something that would work yet allow you to take it apart in the future.

I bet Speedchaser could figure out how to fabricate clips out of 1.6mm and 2mm wire probably have to be a spring steel ?

the clip you need is part number 4 right? I will check to see if the inner joint includes the clip tonight and let you know. I'm almost certain it does not include 15 or 16.

I agree with H - it should be a common part, but do not know for sure.

yes I need one possibly 2 of the #4 rings/clips I'm betting an axle shop may have something as well but if it comes with the guts along with the cage and new balls I'll probably grab 2 while we still can

Yes I noticed that and that's what were wondering is if it comes with the new stub from Honda as the guts come with it, anybody have one or two of these extra :)

Back when I made the trip to Rockford drive line http://www.pilotodyssey.com/rockford.htm
they talked about buying a new machine to make ATV axles said they could then duplicate any CV axle on the market including the odd splines that Honda used I wonder if they ever bought this machine.

Maybe they can even make axles for the Drakarts but that wont cure the axle plunge problems that tear up the axles.

These guys list CV boot kits for the Pilot

Image

The inboard boot fits the Civic wonder if any of the other CV parts are also shared like the clips he is looking for?

I thought the same bout the civic...the outside diameter or cup and axle size must be the same for boot to work, so I'm getting the clip is same or very close... Found a couple clips and ordered them up today..thanks to a helpful member, can't thank you guys enough

The Honda Civic part will fit, I have used them several times, the clips at the end of the axle spline too can be looked up under the Honda Civic car-they are the same. I believe in fact the axles in the car itself are identical to the Pilot, but I have never actually checked the entire axle from a car before.
In fact here is the outer retainer clip part number:
44319-611-010 That should come up for the Honda Civic front axle retainer clip-think it is late model car the year escapes me.sorry.

Man look at me go here fella!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
