Looks like power pros from what I can see in the pictures.

Whats with all the leaks, looks like its leaking at the intake and exhaust looking at all the oil on the trans and skid plate the output shaft seals are leaking in the trans.

I expect to go through it. See the PM that i sent ya :-) after 11 years of running it he has never been into it. I have rebuilt (split cases) many 250r's, several cr500r's, and a couple kx500's, are these any more complicated? they seem like it may be simpler due to not having a tranny attached.

I hope to reseal the exhaust, pressure test it, and have a little fun this summer and rebuild next winter.

Looks to also be an Engine built by ATVRaping. Be very cautious when thinking about buying this pilot. Many of their engines have blown up, just do a search on this site. Looks like they shaved the head too, note that the index tab is missing. This raises compression too high for pump gas and you have to run race gas. Again, use extreme caution with this rig.

well its going on 11 years with the current build. I doubt it blows from build quality, but maybe wear.

thanks for the warning though, that is why i post on here. this place has been a great help in my search. I don't want to be buying race gas so a new head may be needed.

anyone got a web address for the "atvraping" site?

Also ask for some pictures of the whole buggy top to bottom in one shot, one from the front squared up, and one from the rear squared up. Hard to tell, but in the second pic, the roll cage looks really bent, kicked off the the left.

That's a power pro's pipe and if it's not rusted out its one of the better ones. It's welded cones instead of stamped like the newer ones. Looks like it has works shocks without resis?? You will want to check the top end if ATVR has been in there.

Yeah, I wish I would have known to look for the thin or missing index tab on mine. ATVR shaved the head down quite a bit, but I still had a sliver of index tab showing on mine.

Ran it with pump gas (premium unleaded) and fried it within 20 minutes. Of course, there is the distinct possibility that I had some jetting issues... I just got in my brand new (used) 1989 reed cage yesterday but I'm still waiting for the reeds to show up. That will probably keep me from getting the Pilot out in the dirt this weekend. Damn-it! Another weekend lost to shipping time! :-)

I think their site is still down. Thought someone here said they called ATVR and they said they were having the site upgraded. Doesn't make sense to me though. There is no reason to take down the old site while a new site is being built... Perhaps the plot is thicker that it seems.

That is the tab on the cylinder. The one on the head is painted black just like the head.

Pardon my ignorance here but can someone explain to me what a cylinder and head "indexing tab" is and looks like.
Thx for any replies. Udo.

Looks like a fine candidate for wrenching. I mean that in a good way! Neil from ATV Raping called me the other day, letting me know he had my pipe in, lol, I ordered it in October, told him sorry I already found one and if he and that other guy working there would have been returning my calls when I asked them to, they would know that. So they are still around unless the place burned down??

See the black tab in the center of the picture? That is the indexing tab, match it up with the tab on the cylinder when you put the head back on. You can look at the side profile of the tab to see in the head has been machined down.

Got it thanks.
I own two fl350 and the picture is a pilot but I have heard others talk about this indexing tab and just wanted to know. The machine I bought for my brother had the Engine modified and I didn't know we had to run race gas. It promptly went poofkaboom. The only way I found out was through the compression and noticed the cylinder to casing tabs were thinner than mine, which meant they milled down the cylinder at the bottom. Just wondered if the fl350 had indexing tabs and I missed it.

Ok, I guess I am in the market for a new head. I don't plan to be buying race gas to play on this.

The more I read about ATVR the more concerned I get

thanks. I just got it home and will start a post in the "projects" section tomorrow. I gotta get that pipe coated, repack the silencer, figure out the ATV racing head / compression issue, and generally inspect the whole machine. I have to say that it does run out real well though. I took it for a hard test ride BEFORE I bought it. the owner said to let it rip so I did

I would like a little harder acceleration but the top speed aint too bad right now.

Sounds typical for a Pilot. They don't accelerate like a quad with 5 gears.
