OK, time to get working on this.

If we start this ride around memorial day, we should all be out there riding on 06/06/06. This may make it sound like the Devil's ride, but, the devil was along on last year's ride and I think he got his due that time, so hopefully he will leave us alone this time.

Nuke'em says his place is good for a meeting spot, it would be very handy for anyone coming west on I-80 (Dennis and Hoser), and it is only a couple of hours north of me. From his place, it is a very easy day's drive to Killpecker, which is just north of Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Maybe several days at Killpecker, then on to Saint Anthony's. That again is an easy day's drive.

Killpecker is primitive, so, some may wish to stop a nite at our official lodging and hospitality center (motel 6) before enjoying the six hundred foot dunes in Idaho. For any of you who haven't seen it, Yellowstone Park is only around a hundred miles away, maybe a day trip, or on your return.

Colorado has the Great Sand Dunes national park, home of the biggest sand dunes in North America, however, the naysayers got there first, so we can't ride there. Instead, anyone who would like to get a taste of Rocky Mountain http://rockymountainatv.com riding, could stop over at Walden, Colorado. This is the place you ride your spare ride, especially if it is a four stroke quad. It claims to be sand dunes, but it is really only a couple of square miles of sand. There are, however, some good trails up into the mountains for those who might want to see something different.

Killpecker, Saint Anthony's and Walden are on BLM land, no fees to ride. Killpecker has just primitive camping, but it is totally free. Saint Anthony's has a pretty nice campground, there are fees there, but, unless they have changed, they are bargain rates. At Saint Anthony's there are also at least two other campgrounds, both are private, one is a pit, and the other is pretty snooty and high priced. The BLM is closest to the best riding anyway. Walden has dispersed camping and is also free.

So, who is in for sure, in for maybe or just thinking about it?

If the group gathers at Killpecker, some will likely staggle in during the week, if we move on a Sunday, St Anthony's will likely be deserted when we get there. We would then have as much time as anyone could take the next week up there. So, we plan the trip over two weeks, and the real lucky ones could make a two weeker out of it, and others could still go to either or both places and have a great time.

On the latest rig, don't laugh, the Drak fits in the trailer and the quad goes in the pickup, so it is handy and not in the way of other things.

Think I ought to get a real satellite dish?

Somehow, sometime, we are going to need to go to town for more water while we are at Killpecker unless we find a stream that I didn' notice before. Got any ideas on that?

I've got 14 days off and I'm itching to get gone...

Funny I was just checking the calander and noticed that the original departure date is Memorial Weekend
OOPS - How did I miss that - That was NOT my Plan...

How do others feel about this ??? - Should we delay a week ???

Anyhow I'm looking forward to having a blast...

We are in! Fed and I put 2 weeks of leave in the books starting the week after Memorial Day weekend. I probably could change mine but need to check. I don't know about Fed. His schedule is alot more tricky. How far is LS Utah off the route we are taking?

Did you hear the date early this morning? 1hr, 2 min, 3 sec, 4 month,5 day, 6 year. Only time that will ever happen.

Oh, bolted the carb on, put some gas in and fired up the 420. Sounded good but I still have ALOT of things to do.

Any date around that time is OK with me. I just need to set it up ahead of time. Maybe going a bit after the holiday would allow the sand and camping to be better, a lot of people will go that weekend and blow their wad, and it should be less crowded the next week.

Those dates still work for me....

I just know traffic will be heavier on I-80 during that weekend...
NukeEm maybe most everyone turns off of I-80 towards Dever CO so you don't see much traffic out your way
I-80 around Lincoln always seems to be very busy (ie Full of idiots)....

Kelly will have the longest first leg...
I'm not sure when He is plannig to head West...

I've thought about Leaving Lincoln on Saturday May 27 and Maybe Hold up at Nebraska National Forest for a couple of days

OK Everyone plan on meeting @ KillPecker on or around
Tuesday May 30 ???................

We could then ride thru Saturday June 3 and Split Sunday June 4 for St. Anthony's....

Any and Everyone who wants to join our merry group is welcome to join in anywhere along the treck................

May30 - June 3 -> KillPecker WY
June 4 - June 9 -> St. Anthony's ID
June 9 - June 10 -> Walden CO

Does that sound like a PLAN ????

PS
Don't forget you need to have your ATV Registred for IDAHO Right ?????
Jerry you have any other info for us non-registration Staters......

PSS
Someone needs to kick limpSpeed in the ARSE and get him going along also....
(Maybe Just Maybe he is scared of the new improved 670.......)

LETS RIDE.................

Damn Pilotman, that IS a serious drive, but glad to hear you are coming.

I live about 1.5 miles off I-80, 20 miles into Wyoming from Nebraska. I have plenty of room to park trailers/campers. If anyone wants to come early, we can take your machines up to Walden sand dunes (1.5 hrs away) to get the jetting right. Its 8000-8500 ft there, 6000 at my home.

There is also a small dunes area along the middle of Wyoming 5 miles or so off I 80 called Siminoe. Hoser, you have been there, right? Might be a place to strech the legs on the way back or to Walden. here is a link to some info--- http://www.dunereview.com/forums/index. ... hl=seminoe

I bought a new bug zapper Tom, and it has your name written all over it! LOL

Dates...
5/30 to 6/9 is good with me

Jetting...
Killpecker is 7,300 ft
St. Anthony's is 5,000 ft
Walden is 8,500 ft, and higher up in the trails

Registration...
Colorado has provisions for out of state visitor's, I don't know if these are any good in other states. Here is a link

http://coparks-ipps.state.co.us/ipps_pu ... /ipps/home

Gary, how easy is it to register in Wyoming, might that be a good alternative?

Dunno about others but I will probably get my stickers from MI from Pilotman mostly because I will probably return and ride their more than any other state..

Exactly what sticker we need to comply, is it a ORV sticker or a DNR sticker? Someone have a picture?

This sounds like an interesting trip & I'd love to make it if my work schedule will allow it. I won't know until we get closer to the date. I also come from a state with no registration requirements & have non for any of my ATVs. I've heard the horror stories that your toys can be confiscated by Highway Patrol, etc. if you don't have titles or registrations so this would be a concern of mine.

I just got off the phone with Idaho Park & Rec. (800) 247-6332

The rule is: You do NOT need any registration if you're there less than 30 days. However, if you would like to buy one anyway (to keep from being hassled I guess), they are $10 and you can buy them right there in St. Anthony's @ C&C Supply or Cougar Corner. Hope this clears up the confusion.

I know that Colorado honors out of state stickers, for those going to Walden.

A couple of thoughts/comments on registrations.

Early last summer Hoser and I went to Killpecker in Wyoming, this is federal BLM land. If there was a requirement for registrations there, I never saw anything. Some of the machines we had there were not registered and never became a problem. There were so few people there that I doubt it would have worth the officials coming out and checking. That is not to say that it might not be different this year.

Later last summer, we went to Little Sahara, Utah. Upon our arrival there, we discovered that Utah will ticket and confiscate any non-registered off road vehicles, even though the area we would be riding at was federal BLM land. We found that they check the riding areas quite often and to ride without them was a sure problem. It took most of a day to locate and purchase Utah permits. I don't recall the cost, but, it was the hassle more than the cost that was a problem.

After our stop at Utah, we went on to St Anthony's in Idaho. I don't know if they required them there, or even if they ever checked. Of course by that time, all of our machines had a sticker of some sort on them, so someone could have been checking and I didn't even notice.

Bottom line, I don't think the areas we are going will be a problem, but, just to be sure, it wouldn't hurt to be prepared ahead of time.

In a effort to get more of my ducks in a row I've been doing some research......

ATV /ORV Stickers....

It appears that WY does require a ORV Sticker and they DO NOT Honor other state stickers....

http://wyotrails.state.wy.us/trails/atv.htm
<Start Quote>
The $15 state ORV permit is valid for a calendar year and required for both residents and non-residents (same permit for both users).
There is no reciprocity with other state’s OHV or ORV permits.

Selling agents will include ATV and motorcycle dealers, local businesses, selected Forest Service, BLM and State Park offices, and some county treasurer offices.
They may also be purchased by calling the State Trails Program office at 307-777-7477.
<End Quote>

I can only ASSume that Killpecker WY falls under this requirement...

Anyhow since my home state has no registration abilities here are some nearby ones that do....

Iowa - $16 (Honors other state registrations)
Colorado - $15.25 (Honors other state registrations)
Wyoming - $15 (DOES NOT Honor other state registrations)
Michigan - $16.25 (Don't know if they honor others)
Idaho - $10 (Honors other state registrations)

Maybe we should just figure out where to get them in WY and I believe we will be covered in ID and CO...... THOUGHTS.....

On another note - I have no prof of ownership for any of my machines.
I am seriosly considering titling them, which in Nebraska means $10 for VIN inspection and $10 per Title per Machine...
Not Bad $ wise but I have heard a few horror stories about this
Anyone have any "Do this" or "Don't do this" advise on what I should or should not say / do while attempting this ????

If I had a MSO (Manufactors Statement of Origin) it would be a no brainer but I don't....

On a positive note I THINK I FOUND A TRAILER - YEA HOO
(damn straight I'm yelling)

Only 2 hours away and the dealer is suppose to have it in on Wednesday....
American Hauler 7x16 V-Nose, Ramp Door, +6 Height $4500

Anyone have any opinions about this brand - Good or Bad please let me know before Wednesday 4/12/06

Thanks
Dennis

Guess I need to get Wyoming stickers I wonder what info they need before they issue them to you?

All I have is a bill of sale from private owners on my Pilots titles on everything else I bought new I guess I will deal with the no title thing if it happens I can easily point out the frame and Engine serial numbers to anybody that wants to see them if they were missing I might be worried.

Glad to see you finially have found a trailer I don't know anything about them sure glad I don't have to worry about shopping for one their is too many to choose from and the quality seems to vary quite a bit, now my biggest worry is fabricating rear barn doors on the bus conversion ....

Some thoughts.....

Registration......Since Wyoming doesn't have reciprocity, and the other states do, it seems best to get them in Wyo, any chance Fed and/Nuke em could get them for the group?

Camping at Killpecker.....The main parking/camping area has an outhouse, the dispersed areas don't as far as I know, so bring a bucket. Hoser and I saw some nicer spots to camp, but only if it is dry, as these were low lying grassy areas that looked like they could get pretty sloppy in heavy rains.

Water at Killpecker.....My trailer holds about 50 gallons, enough for me for a few days. Anyone got any connections to some of the large home or office plastic water jugs? Fill them in Rock Springs on the way out there, and maybe once more during the stay, as without a doubt, someone will need to go to town for something.

Firewood....Dennis, if you really want a fire, you are going to need to bring wood, there is none out there, and no vendors on site.

As far as info needed for Wyoming ORV stickers, they always just ask for year, make, model, vin# and name /address + signature. Atvs here are not required to be titled unless you want to put plates on them for street use, which alot of people do. If I buy the stickers for you, I think I would have to put them in my name. I will swing by one of the ATV dealerships and ask for you.

I burn wood in my fireplace so I have a big wood pile( I have wood! LOL). We can take as much as we want. I know a guy from Rock Springs pretty well who drives sand rails. I am sure he would let us get water from his place too. Fed bought a camper this winter so we will have a shower but I don't know what kind of water supply it has. I can see what kind of large water jugs I can come up with too.

I am planning on buying a 75 gallon fresh water tank for the toy hauler, I have a used 27 gallon fresh water tank from my old slide in camper I will bring I also have a white 55 gallon plastic barrel I can fill all these up in rock springs, I usually just use gallon jugs to flush the RV toilet when on the road to reduce the load..

It would not hurt to bring some empty gallon milk jugs too..

Make sure to bring PLENTY of fresh drinking water figure a gallon a day per person depending on weather, when its dry it goes fast..

Bring EXTRA gas!

Nuke Em put me down for at least 2 of the stickers, if you cant get them let me know where I can get them on my way through.

Hey Hoser, is the bus going to be ready for this ride? Have you thought about a ramp door on the rear instead of barn doors? you then wouldn't have to haul any ramps, and one large door should be easier to seal than two barn doors. Maybe a frame made out of 1 or 1.5 inch square steel tubing, wood on the inside and metal on the outside, screw or rivet in on, paint it and you're done.

I just got off the phone with Wyoming ORV.
I can put your information on the registration. This means your buggies won't be in my (or Nukem's) name.

SOoo.....those who need stickers please provide the following and I will pick them up soon:

Full Name
Address with Zip code
VIN #

If you're nervous about giving out your information, you can email it to me at metal27_@hotmail.com

As stated above, each sticker is $15. We can work out repayment later if you like.

*** Forgot to mention, if you want $1 to go to Search and Rescue, the total is $16 per vehicle. (Never know when you might need to rely on those fellas)
