I have a complete 1990 fl400 Engine with starter and primary taken out of my pilot for a motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) change
it has stock bore and low hours has not been in machine for 12 years

How come its been out of the Pilot for so long?

Any pictures?

How has the Engine been stored?

took it out 12 years ago and saved it as a spare for my friends stock pilot it probably only has 40 hours if I had to guess bought the pilot new in 1992 from a dealer who got it from the warehouse in cali pilot has been stored for ten years too

Engine has been on a shelf in my barn I fogged the cylinder when I put it away

Compression will read higher without the exhaust and intake systems off.

My concerns would be the Engine setting around open for 12 years oiled or not their was nothing to stop dirt, moisture, bugs etc. from getting inside the Engine.

Parts that got a good shot of "fog" might be protected but the parts of the parts that didnt are left to be rusted, the parts well fogged are now magnets for dirt/dust. It all becomes a big crap shoot what the condition in the Engine is.

I have seen guns that the owners oiled, wrapped in wax paper, put into a gun case that appears to be sealed then stored in a closet in their homes 10 years later come out rusted and the bluing stained, this is a condition space where huge temp and humidity changes don't happen.
