I'm just curious about the physical size.

What are your thoughts on it and the 4WD it offers?

I think it'd be a bit of fun.

Mozzy, I saw three of them just about a month ago.

They're as big as a small car. Definitely not a small tight trail vehicle. My son in law Kolby want one badly!

I reckon they'd be great in many situations.

Not sure about the dunes though due to the weight. Although, the 4WD may fix that issue.

Small car like a Toyota Yaris or more like a Corolla?

If you ever see one out and about driving around the dunes or trails try get some video of it.

I like how they pre bend all the roof supports to make it collapse even easier.

I actually saw two of them in action at the dunes. Sand Mountain Nevada to be exact.

Video? Ask and ye shall receive! Here is a short video of one at the Imperial sand dune otherwise known as Glamis.

As you can see they are about the size of a Yaris I guess.

Here is some video comparing the Arctic Cat to a Rzr. Funny this is at the same sand dunes I just mentioned, Sand Mountain Nevada.

Just out of curiosity, when are these things too big? I get the need for horsepower, and the better handling, and blah blah blah.....but at what point do you say the hell with it and buy a Suzuki Samurai or something similar? I mean, really, the price on these things are getting to be ridiculous, especially when the whole purpose was to be compact, quick, and affordable.

I have two pilots and a RZR S, I love the pilots for their nimbleness and quickness. The RZR S is great for cruising around.

You know why a RZR or any of the other UTV's have so much damage when they get rolled? Look at the weight vs the strength of the roll cage....plain and simple they are way toooo heavy.

You can roll a Pilot several times and not have near the damage you have on the UTV's....Pilot is lighter and a lot more thought went into the design of the roll cage and plastics.

Yep, no $hit! There isn't much tube support up there! I guess having doors and a great view is more important.

The thing is purely a toy. I would never drop $19k on one unless I was loaded. Even then I'd probably rather go get a used Wrangler Unlimited, or else build home-fab buggy like you see over on MiniBuggy.net that's less likely to kill me.

The list price of a Suzuki Samurai was less than that of a 90 Pilot back in 1990, I know this because I test drove one and almost bought one I was thinking the same thing back then why not buy a Suzuki Samurai use it off road and on road, glad I didnt buy either then and waited for a used one to show up for 1/2 the cost.

IMO from what I have seen of the RZR's crashing flipping and rolling the weight to strength ratio is very low unlike the Pilots and Odysseys.

Remember this thread viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3839

19k haha maybe if I hit the lotto will consider one.

AK Pilot from on here made a badass wildcat. If I remember correctly he fixed it from a wreck.

I often wonder about the prices of things myself. I wonder how people do it. I work like a slave but rent isn't cheap, funding retirement isn't cheap, groceries aren't cheap, putting gas in and insuring all my junk isn't cheap. I have some left over every week but it takes me a long time to save up any real money. Buying and selling things for extra money isn't what it used to be. Between these TV shows showing inflated prices and the Internet telling even the biggest dullard what things retail for its a tough business. They want top dollar for their stuff and others don't have the money to buy the stuff for full price. Maybe if I took credit cards..... Anyway I live 100% debt free besides some recent medical bills and its tough to put away money. How do people do it with a payment on a $40,000 truck, a Harley payment, $20,000 atv payment, credit cards out the wazoo, etc. etc. Either people live off Ramen noodle while I eat steak or there's a whole lot more money going around than I see. My generation doesn't ask "how much?" They ask "how much a month?" Some older generations are guilty of it to. It's the I want it and I want it now syndrome. Need to get a calculator out and see what stuff really costs with interest, loss of value, and jacked up insurance rates. I can't blow my brains out like that.

Now if you've got a bunch of money and 17k won't financially cripple you and your family I say why not. Also please show me what I'm doing wrong while your at it lol. I'd like to be that guy before I'm 60.

Current as of April 2014

U.S. household consumer debt profile:

Average credit card debt: $15,191
Average mortgage debt: $154,365
Average student loan debt: $33,607
http://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/credit-c ... -household

In April, consumer debt rose 10.2%, to $3.175 trillion. Of this, $2.3 trillion was for loans (mainly education and auto) and it increased .9% during the month. Only $870.4 billion was credit card debt, and it increased 12.3%. (Source: Federal Reserve G-19 Report)

I like number 3 and #17 on the list http://www.infowars.com/debt-slavery-30 ... -your-mind

I remember years ago when I got my first credit card, were talking like 1982 I needed a card because I was moving to Florida at the time and wanted something in case I had to make a large purchase on the road, since I had never had a card before it was almost impossible to get one I finally had to get a American Express card and pay them like 50 bux a year just to have it, once I got moved I started buying most my purchases with the card and paid the balance off at the end of the month, 3 months later I got a flood of other cards in the mail so picked out a few of the best let the American Express laps, longest I ever carried a CC debt was about 3 months, when I built my house right at the end I ran out of cash and had to finish all the floor coverings and a few other items using my CC, 2 weeks after the house was finished I started a outage at the nuke plant and paid the card off before the end of the outage.

I feel like a complete moron, I should have borrowed against my house when the bank said they would loan me up to 330k on it (back when I was thinking of building some duplexes) I could have bought a new fancy smancy RV, boat, enclosed trailer, pickup truck etc. then when the economy crashed gave the house back to the bank kept all my toys lol used my savings to start building another new home....

Those numbers are insane! I can't even fathom being $200,000 in debt. Our household income is well above the median income to. I bet the stress levels are through the roof. We did the debt thing when we turned 18 but we got it all knocked out and I'll have none of it in my house. I'm once bitten twice shy on that. I was fortunate to grow up with my parents that don't use debt. They never had a fancy house or cars. I remember being a kid and seeing the other kids families build or buy some big elaborate house and always picking the kids up in a late model vehicle. Wondered why that wasn't us. I'm really thinking of one family as I say this. I was in the same grade as the daughter, she had a brother a year older than us that I played baseball with, and a much younger brother. Maybe 5yrs younger than me. I remember in grade school the girl talking about them having to eat eggs until Friday. That's all they had for food. Her Dad worked as an electrician at CAT and her mom was the dispatcher at the Ottawa PD and part time at Rutland in the cafeteria. Should be a pretty darn good living. I know CAT USED to be an excellent job. They had a house on top of the hill in the subdivision just above the west end of old rt.6 by material service. All big money houses. My parents would pick us up from school and sports in my dads old rusty suburban and they a brand new blue one. I never understood how they had all this nice stuff. I sure know now. Got pulled over by Grundy county a few months ago for not wearing my seatbelt and it turned out to be Joe. The son that was one year older than me. Once he realized who I was we got to talking. Asked how his family was and if they were still living there. I guess his dad died in 2010 from a massive heart attack at 49. His mom lost the house and was living in an apartment in Marseilles. I felt bad for bringing up some bad memories but I had no idea all that happened. He told me to put my seatbelt on and we went our separate ways. Riding home I thought about what he told me. This guy had a really good job and worked his whole life keeping up with the joneses and when he died everything he suffered for was lost. He was a true debt slave so some bank could boot his wife out of all they worked for. Not this guy. I don't think so. I'll leave something behind besides a huge mess. I'll stick with my slow as a tortoise way. At least when I get something it will truly be mine.

I have witnesses many relationships damaged and completely destroyed by debt, I have yet to see one relationship improved by debt, I was lucky enough to witness the disadvantages of debt at a early age and learned to avoid any long term debt (more than just a few months of debt) the excuses for debt are endless and from my vantage point, funny as hell, talk about 'entitlement' or 'American dream' but hey its their life they can live it how ever they want its good entertainment :-)

I think it's funny when they try to make you jealous when you know it's not theirs lol! Guys at work always make fun of the work cars I drive. I know exactly what these clowns make. I'm very far from impressed by your banks new pickup truck that's getting destroyed in the parking lot lol. I keep it to myself. They'll argue how it makes sense until you puke. I won't be changing their minds.

Had some little shit head on his bicycle the other day tell me "nice car hahaha" as I was waiting to pull out of the gas station in my Nissan. I told him " thanks I've got 2 more cars and 2 pickup trucks at home to with the titles in my safe. Ask your parents how many titles they have."

Little shit bag lol.

People like Dave Ramsey get rich off the over-borrowers, poor planners, and ignorant. But its not that difficult, really...from "The Book of Dan" (haha)...

Live within your means, and either accept those means or do something about making them more to your liking. Otherwise, stop complaining.

Try not to get caught up in what other people have. You're assuming they have all the same finances, income, responsibilities, and lifestyle as you.

Pay cash if/when you can. While saving up for something you don't exactly need, you may find that a more important purchase will pop up and require said saved funds.

Never trust yourself to "pay off that card" when you slap a big purchase on it. You are your own worst enemy.

Don't make any uneducated investments.

Don't have more hobbies than you can afford at enjoyable levels. In other words, don't have 10 hobbies you're kinda' into -- pick a couple and go all out.

And don't put hobby in front of family -- days/weeks/years go by faster than you think. And those precious times with loved ones are indeed precious and you can't get them back. Be patient. That project can wait. Can't be a kid your whole life, but you're still allowed to have some fun.

Project your finances months forward. You will better understand how a decision today affects your account balance down the road.

But that's just my take on things. I'm only 38 years wise, but the older I get the more things come into focus.

The new Wildcat! lol!! I'd love to own one, but hate to pay for it!

I'm on a boring-ass conference call. I tend to surf PO.com, Craigslist, and a couple other sites while listening in. And I can get a little wordy. I've spewed that same blurb over on MB.net, too.

The whole reason why I own two Odys is I'm cheap. I can't see spending more on an ATV than I spent on my last new car.

I drive a vintage Volkswagen because its a hobby and did I mention that I'm cheap? I can also buy and rebuild a decent priced sand rail with a VW drive train in it for 1/2 the cost of these new toys. Note that I don't have a sand rail yet either.....did I mention I'm cheap?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to own a new wildcat but come on, the price of these things is absolutely ridiculous!

Wasn't this the attitude toward the pilot in 89 and 90 and one of the main contributing factors for the low sales? So does this mean in 25 years we will buying old SXS machines to rebuild. Maybe I should start hoarding parts now. Perhaps buy this arctic cat and keep it in the crate? :-)

by the way Randman I agree with you!

Sorry guys, did not mean to side track the issue.......I agree with the cost of these toys and the responsibility of purchasing one.....

My question really is, what size, (chassis, Engine, etc. etc.) is getting too large to enjoy like you do your pilot/oddy?

For the cost of the new UTV's, check the measurements. Rand hit it on the head. You can home build or buy a pilot for a hell of a lot less than these new rigs.

Not to mention the larger the toy, the more trailer room you need.....

SXS are great, but when I want to zip around and not worry about endangering anyone but myself, the pilot/oddy cannot be beat for reliability, survivability, and just over all grinability. :-)

Just my .02

For my style and use of a side by side the RZR-S is about my limit I could not see me enjoying most the trails I have taken my RZR down in the past 8200 miles enjoyable if it was any wider, many times the suspension could stand improvement the shocks just don't seem right I wonder if Dave-Co has done any RZR-S suspension work yet?

Anyways I have yet to figure out where these guys are using all the extra power they are extracting from these machines in reality I bet they are straight line shooters on smooth ground real close to camp or a group of people I don't see much use for it else where unless you were racing other than that has to be a manhood enhancement thing or bragging rights for the guys that need a ego boosting .

Look at the HP to weight ratios, wonder if their is a chart of all the side by sides to see who has the best power to weight?

I have always been happy with my Pilot on 95% of the places I have rode it, once I get the LT dialed in it might change my mind but I doubt it, I don't enjoy riding on trails that are just wide enough with any of my other machines I doubt that feeling is going to change with the LT width.
