Spare key currently stuck in cap looking in case we cannot get it out. So far WD40 no work

The key will only come out if the cap if latched in the lock position, is it on the tank and will not come off.

WD-40 does not work good on rusted parts, get some PB-Blaster.

Cap attached not locked on can put cap on tank just cant get it to lock and release
Will play some more, we may have forgotten all the specifics

i believe you have to push down on the cap to get it to lock. i don't think the key will spin otherwise

yes you need to push down with the dust cap out of the way, if it doesn't snap over on it's own you may need 2 people, one to push down one to turn the key ccw, I would use some of the graphite spray available, goes on liquid then drys and only leaves the graphite behind.

lol, i just got a pilot and did the same thing didnt know how to lock it and get the key out. hope you figure it out.

Thank You all so much that's all it took was someone to retrain the brain. I got to the cap just as my husband was about to do something stupid with it. Key is out no problem cap still intact like new. Phew!!
I appreciate the help
