Do any of you guys put an Engine on the bench and run it ??
Is it wise to run it without a load on it (no clutch)??
Any info is helpful. Thx.

it can be done
i do it with 4 strokes all the time :-)

i think it has a better chance of blowing up while reving with no load on it

This is what happens when I have spare time on my hands.
I dream up shitty ideas.
Thought it would be good to put time on an Engine before install.
I suspected that it would need a load on it.

Like B S said. It's not a shitty idea. Never say never. You can fabricate some kind of mounting plate that sits flat on a bench. You never know you may be getting into something innovative to the pilot/odyssey world. If you don't have welding skills this is good practice. Never sell yourself short. Look at it this way, half the stuff that is made or created out there was thought of by some person that was sitting around doing nothing or drinking beers and watching the grass grow.

Well I am gona give up on this idea because if I have to run it under load then the set up frame is gona have to be real. The frame will have to have some ass. Not worth my time and effort.

I have ran my FL400 Engine without load(clutch) plenty of times, the rpm's never tried to run away.

You could set it up with an Engine brake dyno, http://www.land-and-sea.com/snowmobile-dyno/snowmobile-dyno.htm I made a smaller version of this that will fit into the pilot frame, never got around to using it, in the end I didn't really have the spare time to screw around with it and did not have a signal conditioner for the torque arm. thought it would be sort of interesting to get some real numbers, like stock, with pipe, jet changes, bigger carb, stuff like that. I have a hard enough time doing the stuff around the house I need to do (stuff the wife says I need to do) :-)
