I am working on a 350 I picked up a few weeks ago, considered a parts machine. When I hit the starter button it just clicks. I have a brand new battery that is fully charged. I know it has to be something simple, but I don't know alot about the machines.

Thanks
Tom

The starter isn't clicking, it's the starter relay. I think.

I'll bet the starter is full of oil, its a very common problem with 350s. You will need to pull it and rebuild it. When you get it off and verified that is the problem, post back and I'll help. There is a mod you can do to keep it from happening again.

If it was my 350, after seeing all the starter problems the 350's have had over the years the first thing I would do is remove the starter and take it apart to ensure the inside is not full of oil and to service it per the manuals instructions, I also would perform the balancer case vent mod.

I had a feeling it would be the starter, which I'll remove this weekend. As far as the case mod, what about the vent that replaces the dipstick? I've done a bunch of searches to see what simple things I could do to the machine. I'd rather not tear into anything yet and saw that someone bought/sold the dipsstick vent on Ebay.

Thanks
Tom

If you use a volt meter place teh positive probe on the bolt for the wire on the starter. And the black lead on a good ground.

Press the staretr button and if you get 12+ Volts then the starter is toast.

If you don't get voltage. Put teh positive probe over onto the output of the starter relay. To see if its there. If so the lead is bad. (Doubtful) If no voltage then the relay is bad (also doubtful)

Most likely its the oily starter problem we all have been plagued with.

I did the dip stick vent on one of mine. And that includes plugging the vent in the alternator housing. It works. Others have run the oil on the lower dip stick mark.

When you rebuild the starter: the kit will include a sealed bearing. That will protect the starter from future oil. I find the hardest part of the rebuild is getting the damn starter out and secondly getting the bearing off the stator. To get the new bearing back on I use my drill press as a light duty press.

Hey Braintree. I'm away this weekend. But, if you need help let me know.
I'd happily drive down and give you a hand.

I have three sets of old parts for starters. And I have one rebuild kit left. I was going to use it for this latest rebuild.

But, if your in a pinch I'll sell it to you for what I paid and I'll order a replacement.

I saw someone had the rebuild kits, on an Ebay store, for $30. Any places you guys recommend? And thanks for the offer to help Bob. I just finished sandblasting, wire brushing and repainting almost everything so the parts should come out pretty easy, again.

Ok on a closer look he also added the FL to 350 on his link no doubt so the link on my site would be dead and upon further inspection he STOLE the 350 service bulletin picture off my site and put it on his site when he could have just linked it to my site LMAO bet you guys really think he was smart to come up with that service bulletin huh I made a special trip and drove a total of 1.5 hrs to get that service bulletin from MGR and Gottride so I could scan and share (to help) it with the 350 owners, what a friggen punk ass he turned out to be! Changed the link and stole my pic "Funny" it only gets better.

On his site http://www.g2-innovations.com/FL350/sta ... lletin.htm

The orignal on my site http://pilotodyssey.com/350sb.htm

Look at the pics you can see they are exactly the same carry the same markings, compare the little blemishes its the same as mine only blown up a little LMAO I have the orignal I can take a picture of if anybody needs further proof where he got it from, more darkside bullshit caught again with their hands in the cookie jar LAMO

Tangle web they weave when they lie steal cheat and deceive (you guys) fine upstanding group of mutts that no doubt when confronted will spin the whole thing into "I was just trying to help people"

Too "Funny"

Found it I was using it for a bookmark in my 350 service manual
here is a fresh scan this time I didnt crop the bottom off, some of the
older members here will probably remember the conversation someone
brought up the fact I cut off the Honda copy write at the bottom I think
it was VJB as a matter of fact.

Those kits are the ones I've bought.

Work great for me. And it includes the sealed bearing.

Mass, when you posted about testing with the meter. If it's toast is it rebuildable? I will test it tonight or tomorrow, since it's going to be another rainout weekend.

I know your asking Bob but if you don't mind me tossing in some info... can you can take detail pics of everything a good eye can spot quite a few problems just looking at pics, the armature for example the color and condition of the copper and the varnish insulation that coats the windings can tell you alot about the life of the starter, the area where the brushes ride is another, do a CSI don't get in a hurry, take pics before and after you clean something up don't wash or wipe away evidence before we get a look at it... most of the 350 starters I have seen are a victim of oil infiltration others are simply are well worn because the owner never kept the Engine tuned and easy starting so the starter was usually over worked simply trying to get the Engine started again.

Taking detail pictures cant be anything but helpful to everybody.

Pretty excited. I got the Ody running this weekend. Not like it was difficult, sprayed the carb and two easy pulls. I also started removing parts to get to the starter. I'm going to try the simple route oftrying to slide the brake rotor out of the way instead of removing everything. I should have it out tonight.

I could care less about where the pic came from hoser. Obviously it is from your site. I don't deny that at all, never did, never will. I just don't see the point of sending a user offsite when its simple to add a picture to a page. Besides the more pages to find a resource the more likely someone will be able to find it, and that's the whole point of building a "help" page in the first place. Last time I checked you didn't allow robots to roam you site looking for stuff people could use. I don't have to boost my ego having people come beg to me for my help. Unlike you they can find any of my pages through a web search. Its there if they need it, and I could care less which search Engine they use to find it.

Spin it any way you want....I don't care.

Why bother, he is just another one of the Flavor of the Month guys, and finally they are going back to the depths from which they came.

I say good riddance, the rest of us will be (and has been) better off for it.

I don't know why I even bother. But if the link were changed it was due to a server change file structre rearrangement and nothing malicious. If I forgot to email you and ask you to change the link on your site...oops a simple oversight. I did it once, and would have done it again if I had thought of it.

Either way you can update the link on your pages if you so desire...if not then don't worry about it.

The pic in question has been on the starter link since day one, if you wish that I remove it I will, no skin off my back.

I just thought I'd stop by for a visit to see if anything has changed and obviously it has not. Still the same bunch of insecure whiners, and I still see you are grenading engines faster than you can expertly build them hoser.
