It's been 4 years the last time I started this project. I have now officially started the restore. I am stumped on the cooling system I need. The original radiator setup was missing when I got the car. I have added an 80's Suzuki 250 two stroke racer radiator. Some have said I just need thermo expansion and some said I need water pump. I will try to make this short.

The odyssey puts out 12v AC power. The pump I got is 12v DC. Can I run just that DC pump off the AC Lighting Coil only (no lights) with NO battery?

Do I need a battery? I understand that if Battery is needed I can float the ground and add rectifier to change voltage to DC to correctly charge battery.

What do you think the original racer did on this car? I see no battery box or anyplace battery would have been mounted. I do have 4 wires coming out of Engine. I will know more about that when I get inside Engine.

Pics are my car and the parts I just bought for it. The pump is an auxiliary water pump from a Mercedes. Then rectifier. Also pic of another car I got original water cooled setup. But I just have the pic. I am at stand still for I need to know If I must fab water pump mount and battery box before I paint it. Will be trail riding and dunes riding. No racing. So I need best setup for my use.

This is a Cammex racing products Engine. But it'd FL250 internals and electronics. It's a 250cc up to 360cc not sure which yet. This is an Old Odyssey class three open modified racer from the 80's. So it's Odyssey but it's not. Something like that.

Or just slap me in the back of the head and go with thermo expansion or whatever you call it.

Thanks Friends

This is the day I got it. I took the china radiator off asap. Never was much time on that setup. Just starting it up. I have added the radiator setup you see above in the pics.

Also I was told by a few race gas only with this Engine? Your thoughts on that?

I thought I would share these pics. I have this old race chassis. This rad setup was original to this car. So the race tracks were using pumps as well. I really want to know how.

This is Janice Carlock out of Texas. Two time national champion in this car. Forward facing under the car pipe.

Welcome back, I haven't seen a post from you in quite a while!

The thermosiphon system works well if you don't have the electronics to convert from AC to DC.

I tried thermosiphon on one of my Ody's and it warms up a lot quicker than the pump setup. On the down side, it doesn't run as cool as the pump setup. For a 250 I think it would work just fine.

My vote is to do the thermosiphon and don't mess with the electronics. The other beauty.....you never have to worry about pump failure!

Thanks for the info. I was hoping I could keep it simple. I am leaning to just thermosiphon way. Sure makes the to do list way less.

I am now waiting on ebay seatbelt to arrive to fab them in. Pondering on if I want lights on it or not. Or stay true to vintage car. I would like to run quad size tires and wheels up front. This car is so low not even sure how it will take the dunes. I am guessing it will flat track like a bat out of hell. (with a 150lb driver hehe)

So thermosiphon it is. From reading other threads Hoser seems to like thermosiphon as well. I want one of those inline temp gauge though.

Fast question. I have not been to any dunes since the 90's. Do they make buggies like this have tail light even if day riding only? Any dunes laws that I may want to add lights? Oregon is my state.

I bought these used outdated seat belts for pretty cheap off ebay. And a pic of my bighead in it. Looks smaller than it is in this pic. But sits low. Last pics is another car from 80's magazine. Same class I am guessing.

EXTREME PAPER CUT! Now that some funny shiznizzle right there!

As far as tail lights go you will have to check you local laws. I don't believe they're required but then again I don't live in Oregon. Duneit does all his riding in Oregon, maybe you can ask him.

That old rig sure brings back memories, I used to have an old ORCA Ody 1977 vintage I used to race flat track.

Welcome back.
You look like magilla the gorilla sitting in that thing LOL.
Just in case some of you don't know who magilla the gorilla is: He was a cartoon character when I was a kid. The gorilla who was riding the little three wheeled trike.

Welcome BACK!

I would try to contact Bill Keefe and ask if you can use thermosiphon with the Cammex cylinder he use to run one of those back in the day. Anybody heard from Bill lately? memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=145
