Up for sale is my 1989 Pilot.

It has an ATVR long travel front suspension, two sets of tires and rims, a Digitron (RPM & Exhaust temp), 39mm PWK Keihin carb, Powerblok clutch, and other minor goodies here and there.

My doctors tell me that I won't be able to use my knees to their full capacity until I get double knee replacement surgery, and at 43 years old, I'm really not ready for that. I'm 6'4" tall and over 250 pounds, so as you can imagine, this little machine pretty much beats the hell out of my legs and knees when I ride it. If it stays with me it will just sit in my shop and never get ridden.

I purchased it from a man in Phoenix about 2 years ago when I was going through chemotherapy at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, and I've done nothing but put love into it since. I never had the title transferred into my name because I always seemed to have better places for my money to go. The man I bought it from never had it transferred into his name either (the fellow had way more dollars than sense). The people who sold it to him had signed the title, so the buyer just needs to sign it and pay the late fee for the delayed transfer. Not sure exactly what that will cost, but probably a couple hundred bucks. If that is a big deal breaker for you I will consider lowing the price by $200.

I’ve been infatuated by this little buggy ever since I was a kid and saw it in the local Honda shop showroom. It has been a life-long dream of mine to own one. When I was fighting cancer I decided that owning and driving a Pilot was one of the things I had to do before I died. Well, I have owned one and I have driven it, and I wish that could keep her but I feel she would be in better hands with someone else from this forum.

I know you are all passionate about these machines and I know she would be better off with one of you.

I have a few extra parts that will go with the Pilot. See pics below. Also, I have a cylinder honing tool and the original metal front bumper. Everything on this Pilot works great but the pain of just getting in and out of it is too much for me to take. Another member of this forum, Pilot bird, and I went out riding at Red Sands before, so he can testify to the good condition of the machine.

I'd like to get $5000 for the Pilot and extra parts. I have way more than that in it, and I’ve only be able to ride a couple times since purchasing it. So, as usual, I’m going to suffer a loss on this sale.

I hope that one of you on the Pilotodyssey.com forum will be able to give this Pilot a new home and put her back where she belongs – hauling ass, tearing up trails.

BTW, thanks to everyone on this forum who was patient with me over the last couple years while I was learning some of the finer details about owning and taking care of one of these great machines. You are a fantastic group of people.

I believe with today's medical technology you only get 2 replacement knees and they last about 10 years each. I could be way off but I'm pretty sure it's something like that.

How much are you wanting for the six pack rack?

Any idea if it will fit on an Fl350?

I see ATV Racing has them for 99 bucks. I tried to email them and ask if they knew if it would fit an FL350 but their mailbox is full!

Just had arthroscopic surgery on both knees in mid-December. Still recovering from that, but it doesn't look like it helped much to ease the pain I'm feeling. I've educated myself about knee replacement and it is something I may try in a year or two. I need to get a couple more cancer-free years under my belt before I feel safe enough to undergo such an invasive surgery like knee replacement. I'm exploring all my options and picking the low hanging fruit first. Knee replacement is the equivalent of dynamiting the fruit tree and will be something I really need to psych myself up for.

I'd really like to sell the whole thing (Pilot and parts) in one shot and not piece meal it. If you guys know of anyone interested, please have them contact me. I'd greatly appreciate it.

Oh, BTW, I live in Las Cruces, NM. Not sure about shipping the Pilot. I've never shipped anything so large. Hopefully someone within driving range will be interested. I'll give it a few weeks here on the forum before offering it to the rest of the world.

Sorry to see your selling good luck with the sale and the knees, I have bad knees too so know exactly how you feel, my left knee has a Torn meniscus and needs surgery they would only MRI one at a time (scam?) but my right knee has the same problem so assume its torn and needs fixed also, I gave up doing service work $$$$ about 10 years ago because of my knees I hope yours works out good in the end, FYI losing about 35 lbs made my knees feel 100% better.

A friend of mine completely avoided knee surgery after losing 60 lbs.

Would love to lose 60 pounds! LOL. I dropped 20 but I have no idea how to drop more.

I just had a partial meniscectomy on my right knee because it was torn so bad. lost the inside but still have meniscus on the outside. Left knee is in much better shape, but still jacked up bad enough for me to avoid stairs unless I have no other choice.

Hopefully I will be able to get back into offroading somehow. I may have to get a Jeep or something. I've always hit the trails hard, but maybe it is time to throttle back and take things a bit easier. I just hope I can unload my Pilot on someone who will take care of it. Other than the ATVR front suspension, the clutch, and the exhaust, it is essentially stock. I really wanted her to go to Pilot bird because he is so good to his machines, but he has hit his limit of 3 Pilots.

Just curious. What would it take to return the pilot front end to standard travel? I am looking for another stock width pilot with stock rims. My personal experience with the offset aftermarket rims is difficulty turning and reduced turning radius. I love my Pilots over my fl350s. Will eventually sell the 350s once I've acquired 2 more pilots.

over 9 Jobs 5 with a helper drop him home then did 4 myself, PS Helper is useless after lunch I was
happy. A little sore tonight but it will get better. Mine were bad by 4 pm I was doing
the last lawn shuffle, but NOW GREAT I had put it off for 6 years or more.

Left Knee was bad and the painful one, But The Right was BAD Plus a meniscus reconstruction 10 years back
there was pain but only now and again. They were going to do a partial to my Right Knee then a Full at the start of winter 2016
but the damage was salvageable and cleaned up will now stretched the replacement 5 years if I Say Mowing and 15
if I get a Desk Job (( NOT))

I heard a new technique the doing they remove ( still a little vague) but will get more info they take Blood or something
from around the Knee and they run it through a centrifuge Extract (( Stem Cells )) re inject in to the knee and helps
to RE grow cartilage and the meniscus. My Knee Lady is looking in to it for me will past it on '' As I said Vague on the Details

I've heard of this type of treatment before, but as the article suggests, there are no 3rd party studies that conclude this therapy actually works very well. I did prolo-therapy in Albuquerque for about 3 months and probably got better results from it than I've gotten from anything else I've tried. My kneecaps are my main problem. Those and what is called the trochlear groove on the end of the femur (the groove in which the kneecap slides). My kneecap basically feels like it is going to explode when I try to squat down. It is extremely painful just going up and down stairs.

As for the arthroscopy (and partial meniscectomy), my main issue is tendon-related, and only in the right leg. After the partial meniscectomy on my right knee, the geometry of the knee has changed a bit, resulting in my joint having to readjust/adapt to the "new" knee. That has really pissed off some tendons that attach to the inside of the tibia right below the knee. It was so bad at first that it would wake me up in the middle of the night. Things are calming down now, and I'm getting around a lot better.

But even before the chemotherapy two years ago, my kneecaps were trashed. Growing cartilage is not an easy thing and it basically stops happening when we become adults. Cartilage has next to no blood supply, so the body has no means by which to repair it. That's why some of these new treatments are trying to inject the necessary substances into the knee - to give it what it needs to heal itself. That's what prolo-therapy is. "Prolo" is short for Prolific, which basically means to grow or prosper. The injection is done once a week until the joint can repair itself. It is also a treatment that is widely used in Europe, and it has conclusive studies which show it works. It's not a miracle cure or anything, but it does work. Unfortunately the only place anywhere near me that provides the treatment is 225 miles away.

Not sure what it would take to revert the front suspension to stock. Hoser would be a good person to ask. Several of the other guys on this forum are extremely handy when it comes to fabrication. Unfortunately I can't really say what it would take. Probably just all the stock parts, but I could be wrong.

Acquire a set of stock arms/shocks & bolt them on, get shortened tie rods meant for stock length arms and a bump steer kit. I've got a set of short tierods you can have for shipping costs if you buy this and needed them, also the atvr kits I have seen relocate the stock upper shock mount on the front. If trx would post a picture of under the front fenders/upper shock mount I can tell you if they've been messed with .

Will be focused on building a new PC this evening, but I will try to get a picture of the front shock mounts and post it soon.

Ooops, got so involved with that gaming PC that I totally spaced taking pictures of the front shock mounts!

If I hadn't run into problems getting both of my GTX 970 cards to run in SLI, I would have remembered.

I'm sure someone on the forum would be happy to trade a stock setup, I know I would be but I've already changed the front spindles on mine to disk brakes.

LOL, forgot again!!! Life has been a whirlwind! I am going to Craigslist this bad boy ASAP, along with my 16ft trailer, and sell them both for $6000. Will post pictures of the trailer, and dammit - the front suspension shock mounts - soon. Hate taking a loss like this, but I also hate owning things and letting them just sit around, get older, and take up precious space.

Here are some pics of my trailer. $6000 for the Pilot and the trailer. There is some discoloration on the tire cover, but that's just proof it is doing its job.

FYI to everyone on PO.com, I got the title issue straightened out. Finally got it in my name. Took four trips to the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) Vehicle Department, but she's 100% legit now. What a pain that was! I had to contact not the guy that I bought it from, but the previous owners so they could send me copies of the trust document that showed they were the sole owners and had therefore had the right to sell it. This was my first experience dealing with a trust, so it all felt pretty bizarre.

I took some more pictures of the Pilot, with pictures of the front suspension and at least one decent picture of the Engine (compartment?). Looks to me like the front upper shock mounts are stock. Still need to get those pics off the camera's memory card. My new gaming rig doesn't have a card reader on it...I totally overlooked that functionality when I was building it, but I plan on getting one eventually. I rarely need one though. I'll post the new pics soon (hopefully). In case you guys couldn't tell, there's no fire under my butt to sell this thing...LOL. I love the machine, but my knees just won't allow me to ride it. I might be able to get into it, but I'm afraid I might not be able to get out...then again, I could think of worse places to be.
