Pull the Buggy out to prep it for a ride. Hit the starter and BUZZZZ from the
Starter solenoid. So Checked Battery for Charge 98% all good there.

Re start same Buzzzzzzz.

Had spare solenoid changed it out Same Buzzzzzzzzzz.

Then ran a spanner across the Two poles on the solenoid starter cranked slow
with no crown wheel engagement. So me thinks starter Stuffed.

So got out a spare strip and clean and service and bench test (( Dead no spin ))

Got another spare I had striped this time installed a full brush kit and same.
bench Test (( Dead no spin ))

How hard can it be to service a starter

Thought I would service a starter before I striped it

any Ideas.

How did you test the battery? The terminals can cause all kinds of issues like that. Also I have one that the front clutch cover was installed wrong and over time it had cut the ground cable almost in half.

Just because you can have 12 volts on a battery doesn't mean it isn't going bad.

My last Ody battery had a full 12 volts but didn't have enough power under load to turn the starter.

Swap out with another battery to make sure before you spend the time to replace the starter.

Did you do the balancer case vent mod?

If your contacts and battery check out, I'd pull the starter and see if its full of oil.

If the starter isn't oily, check your brushes.

Starter rebuild is under $20 and simple so as long as the rest of the parts are in good shape.

I started a rebuild and bailed once I got into it. Buy a new one and be done with it.

Not just the brushes, but the armature too. If it is grooved really bad that can be a problem.

DMoneyAllstar Balancer Mod done 5 years ago

and Yes the Armature's are good no grooving on the contacts / brushes

I have One in the Oddy and 2 spare I really don't want to buy another starter
just yet. But if I have to I will.

Glad you figured that one out before major surgery to remove a good working starter.

Like I said before I have seen several batteries that will hold 12 volts all day long but not have enough cranking power to turn a starter.
