Final result after painting.

Edit: This shifter handle has some minor imperfections and I'm sure I could make a perfect mold if I had taken more time. It's a learning curve.
If I make a new mold of the original shifter handle I now know what to look out for.
1) The base mold mix needed to be more liquid. It dried up to fast on me and therefore some voids were caused. it might have helped if I had tapped the side of the tube with a hammer to get the mix to settle.
2) The top part of the mold was a failure in my opinion. I used straight Portland cement mix and should have done what I did to make the bottom part of the mold.

The rest was successful.

It looks pretty good, especially for someone who needs one.....

How do you think it will hold up to the sweat and acids from the human hand? I have seen quite a few steering wheels on older vehicles that look like they were eaten away and eroded just from contact with the drivers hands.

It's ABS plastic so I can't see it being damaged in any way.
You actually just gave me an idea.
I'm going to do a test and put a piece of this in some gasoline and take another piece and spray it with brake cleaner.
I'll make a video and post it but not today as the super bowl is on and I'm suppose to go to a friends place in a couple of hours for the game.

I'm guessing being retired gives you a lot of time for the more "FUN" things in life!! :-)

Well that's half right.
Yes a guy has time for "FUN" things --- BUT --- you better have things to do.
I can't imagine someone being retired and then sit in front of a tv waiting to die.
Having only ONE hobby is really bad. A guy better have several hobbies.
Retirement is not what everyone thinks.
Social life drops off, body will give way, etc - but a guy has money.

I quit working for 8 years about 2 years ago. Kid started having babies, so wife wanted to stay home to watch them. I soon went back to work out of boredom. I understand the whole social, boredom, better have something to do aspect.

Yeah I know what you are talking about.
I thought about going back to work as a millwright again.
Then I woke up from the nightmare and took a shower to wash off the sweat.
Employers are offering HALF the wages I made in 1982 based on inflation.
They can fix the busted junk themselves. After all, they are just so awesome and skilled that they get a million dollar "bonus" on top of their inflated wage while offering us peanuts.

Shifter looks good, room for improvement yes, but good job!
I'm retired now and keeping busy, yard work, keeping my toys ready for the next trip, other projects, and I got called to do some consulting where I retired from and paid a little over twice the amount I was getting though only for a few hours a week, I learned quick, I don't miss driving on the freeway.
keep up the good work!

Yeah the part time thing is a good gig. I had that for years. Weekends 12 hr shifts and work three days if there is a stat. Loved it. Great crew Great boss.

I'm planning on making another one after I clean up the mold a bit.
I also need to make a new top end for that mold. It's just breaking up every time I touch it because I made that part out of pure concrete. Bad idea. As it drys out more and more it becomes crumbly.

If I had the money I would build a factory to re-make the FL350 and FL400 but they would both have turbo's or optional NOS set up.
I'm still thinking about NOS because I want to explode an oddy Engine.
It's just expensive to buy all the stuff.
Last summer I was talking to a guy at my local auto parts store (not my friends store) and he is into drag cars. He said they would sell me NOS gas.

Nah that's been done so many times on this site already.
Nobody has shown a NOS set up yet and Meth did start on a turbo but he never came back to show it off so I guess it got poo canned. To bad because I was looking forward to that build.
