I just joined the other day. I picked up a 1983 Honda Odyssey 250 for $500. It's in good (not great) shape. It's got the Goki electric starter. Been going through it checking things out and fixing things as needed. Ran when I got it, but wouldn't idle and acted like it had an air leak. Sure enough, I found the intake manifold rubber boot was split. Got another one on order. While I was at it, I checked out the carb and thoroughly cleaned it up. I am also replacing parking brake hub assembly because the old one was shot. I opened Salsbury driver clutch and cleaned and lubed it with dry lube. Everything was good in there. Exhaust pipe was plugged, so I cut the muffler body open and was able to clean it out some. I also welded on a section from another Ody 250 pipe that had a good muffler body (but cracked lower pipe). Basically, I took the 2 pipes and made 1 good one out of it. Had to weld in stitches to get the muffler body back together without burning through. Took a long time to get it welded back up with my MIG welder, but after a little clean up grinding and some hi-temp paint, it looks OK and should function fine. The Odyssey 250 is nice because it's easy to work on, and not as complicated as some modern machines. I like that about it. Look forward to driving it soon (my kids are looking forward to it too).

Thanks for the welcome hoser. I do have 3 of the 4 fenders. I still need to locate the front right (from driver's perspective) fender. The existing fenders are a little beat, but I plan to patch one and try to get a little more life out of them. I also need to replace one of the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) mounts. It appears that a previous owners replaced 2 of the 3 mounts and left one alone. That older one is shot. The other 2 look newer and still look good. I also want to try to tweak the roll cage a little because it's slightly bent.

From what I heard from the previous owner, it sounds like somewhere in it's past, this Odyssey might have been a rental machine at the dunes. If that's the case, then it's in pretty good shape considering that abuse. I know when I rented an Odyssey a long time ago at the dunes with some buddies, we sure weren't very gentle with them! Tried to get air on any bump we could find. I ended up catching some good air on one jump and then flipping end over end. Good fun. These days, I'd probably end up in the hospital if I did the same thing. Now a days, I don't plan to be looking for any air with a buggy with no rear suspension. Sounds real painful!

I'd really like to have a Pilot, but for now the budget allows this cheap Odyssey. The relatively lightweight and decent 2 stroke power on this old Odyssey 250 should still be fun.

Forgot to mention that I did a compression test, and after a few hard pulls on the pullstart, I was surprised to see the compression peak out at around 158psi. That almost sounds too high for me for an Engine that is supposed to have relatively low compression. In any case, it appears to still have good compression.

I started kind of like you. A friend had a 250 in his garage. I helped clean the garage out and he gave it to me. It had a Challenger rear suspension on it. I took it apart redid most of it and found another for $450 and bought that. I ended up selling the complete one and other parts since I don't really have anywhere to ride, or anyone to ride with. But I'm a guy that likes to tinker. I ended up picking up a 350 for $800. I have that pretty much cleaned up but haven't taken it out yet.
