Florida OHV Laws (Know Before You Go!)

ATTENTION RIDERS:

All unlicensed vehicles must be registered in accordance with the Florida State Titling Act. An unlicensed vehicle is any vehicle that is used off roads or highways of this state for recreational purposes and that is not registered or licensed for highway use pursuant to Chapter 320, Florida Statutes.

There are two laws that govern the use OHV on public lands:

The only thing I know is Florida does not consider the Pilot an ATV and I was told buy the DMV that I could not get a title sticker (required on all Ocala trails) for my Pilot and thus I could not ride on any Ocala trail. I do have an actual Florida title for my Pilot that list it as an ATV, but I got that a few years back just as the new Title laws went into effect. ( I don't think they knew what they were doing at that time)

Florida's requirements for and ATV = 3 or more wheels, 50 inches or less in width, a seat you straddle and a steering wheel to control the direction of the vehicle.

I do know the one trail they list as "Wondering Wiregrass" is the powerline trail but it shows it as one big loop so I doubt it would be nearly as good as when we rode there. All the rest of the trails are about 30 miles to the north around the Rodam Dam area.

Big scrub is not listed as part of the trail system, but I heard they are going to be making changes that only allow people camping at Big Scrub to ride in the Big Scrub area. This could acutally be a good thing because it would eliminate the 50,000 yahoos that go there on the weekend just to do donuts trying to show off.

Odykid said he was going to Big Scrub over Thanksgiving so maybe he has the latest details.

You heading to Florida over Christmas? You should plan on heading over to DP the week after Christmas. IMO, its not nearly as good as Ocala was but all in all not a bad set up.

i talked to seminole ranger on phone and he assured me I could ride if I showed up with no proof since i have had my toys for yrs with no reg/title etc.

I would ask to see it in writing (I didnt read the PDF) I would not take a rangers word for anything after that ranger telling us one year you can camp anyplace you want in the forest then the next year the same ranger tells us you can only "tent camp" , the 'feeling' I have after talking to the rangers all them times is they are making the rules up as they go along and depending on what ranger you get and what kind of mood he is in bla bla bla .

My guess is a Pilot would be considered a UTV and only allowed on the trails you can drive a pickup or car on?

Its nice to see out of state people don't need the reg thing, ALL states should be this way, UTAH is a real pain in the ass with their reg stuff!

I was in Ocala this pass Thanksgiving weekend and it was pretty good...

This are the new rules

1:Need the green sticker (I have one for my pilot, but I also have a title) just when to the DMV office and pay 4o some dollars for all 3 (Rhino, Pilot and Little 90) if you don't have the sticker you most have a copy of the title or what ever proof you have that the vehicle is yours

2:Any one 16 or less most wear a helmet gaggles and globes (this one is old but they are enforcing it)

3: You cannot ride along on the north side of the power line (they are enforcing this) I got a ticket $125.00
(this is not on the road, this on the sand just on the north of the power lines)

4: No donuts at all

5: In front of Bigscrub (I use to call it the theater because everyone use to make a show) they have marks where you can exit and then turn on whatever direction and it most be on slow until the marks are gone

6: If exiting a trail is a rode and right across the there is not trail right in front you have to turn around (they don't want anyone on the numbered roads, just crossing

So far that's the rules they are enforcing at the moment, I didn't got stop or ask about the Pilot or Rhino in any way by the Rangers, they didn't even check if the green stickers where belong to the bikes or not (so if some one get a sticker made same color and serial number of the bike I think it will be enough... :)

I did saw a lot a lot a lot less people this year, Bigscrub was 1/2 empty, also you have to reserver your spa (for free) you pay when you get there, now is $12.00 per night
They have made some really nice bathrooms with hot shower and everything really niceeeee.

What else can I tell you Hoser????? ahh we will wait for you at DP this year negro...hehe
