Hi I recently bought a 89 and a 90 fl400, I was wondering what fuel/oil mix people use?

Also the service manual states piston?Rings every 30 hours, is this right?

Thanks in advance

Stuart

Wow. That's like asking what motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) oil is beest for your car... :-) I use 32:1 on all of my 2-stroke toys (Banshee, Blaster, and now my Ody). Some people swear by 40:1, others 50:1. Just depends...

Another vote for 32:1. I have had good luck using Yamalube 2R in both my Pilots.

For the ring replacement, a good way to determine condition is to frequently monitor the compression... like after every ride or every other ride and keep a log.

Have fun with your Pilots!

Thanks for that, i know it seems like a stupid question, i have been mixing 20/1, but i thought with modern oils this seemed a excessive. I have to say what a fantastic vehicle these pilots are, I have modified the seat on one of them and my 7 year old son drives it. (flat out lol)

Honda Hp2, 32:1. I also agee that checking you compression periodically will determine when to change rings. I have heard of out Pilot and Odyssey motors getting over 60 hours. A lot depends on how much detail went into any previous rebuild. BTW congrats on your new Pilots. Everyone here will gladly help you out in any way if you have questions. Plus there is tons of great onfo on this site if you don't want to wait on answers

Yes its a great site, i have spent quite a few hours reading some very interesting stuff. I have always wanted a pilot since i had a go in one at a coprate event. No one has come close to producing a compact buggy as good as the pilot.
Like the vote on one of the posts siad, shame there was not a easy way of fitting a modern 4 stroke bike Engine,
would be much more reliable and the pilot could really do with 90-100 bhp (and disc brakes of course) I did the compression on both pilots yesterday and bot showed around 135psi (not 100% sure of my tester) Problem is i live in bulgaria and any parts will have to come from the USA or UK, and i don't want to strip them down to see if there on oversized stuff as i use them every couple of days, Here I can just drive out the gates and stright onto loads of trails that go on for 100's of miles. What compression do you usually rebuild at? Do you check the compression hot or cold?

I am a Amsoil dealer.(which I'll sell to all at cost + shipping) I have great results with the blends. I am old school can't stop using Golden Spectro 40:1. All Syn. from day one maybe..Used bike not knowing what was used, Blend at 32:1 & do plug reads with Lucas in everything. They have treatment for fuel & the rest. I DO NOT recommend Lucas for 2-stroke pre- assembly lube.
