Well I finally got my universal FMF Quiet Core II silencer installed on the Odyssey. I am pleased with it although making a bracket to hang it was a little tricky.

As far as noise it is not as quiet as the name implies but it is considerably quieter than the so called DG silencer. What it does well is to quiet down the extremely sharp popping noise that the DG pipe makes. I don't have a decibel meter so I can't tell how much quieter it actually is. But just firing it up in the garage there is a notable difference. Kind of reminds me of the sound of my old Suzuki LT250 Quad Racer.

For a little over $100 bucks, the kit I purchased included:

One Quiet Core II silencer with spark arrestor.
One universal clamp bracket that wraps around the silencer.
One stinger pipe (not attached) about 14" long with a 5 degree bend about in the middle of the pipe.
One triangle shaped mounting bracket that can be welded to ? Not long enough to be used in this application.
And four FMF stickers that we all know when installed increases horse power by at least 20%!

Hope this info helps someone who needs a spark arrester and wants to quiet down the DG pipe.

Thanks for looking.....Rand

Thanks, Sunblock!

I was impatient and just had to get it mounted so the hanger and the hose clamp in the picture are only temporary. Its a solid mount but I want to mount it permanently.

First I'm going to change the canister mounting bracket that is attached to the frame. The frame OD is 1.125 and come to find out, highway peg foot mounts for motorcycles come in a 1.125 size. This should make a good solid frame mount. I should then be able to attach a simple "L" bracket to the mount and then to the silencer.

Second is the pipe clamp. The one that comes in the kit is just a simple hose clamp. I will be changing this out to a "T" bolt clamp. I will then be able to tighten the canister to the pipe properly.

I'll post pics again once I have that done

Rand

yeah mine does extend about 4" past yours, but it shouldn't matter much, nothing should catch it since tires extend way past end,but shorter would be better.
Does FMF really claim a 20% horsepower increase? if so I would say theyre full of crap

As far as your pipe sticking out farther than mine I agree it doesn't matter. As long as we don't try to stand them on end!

FMF doesn't claim that you get an additional 20% increase in horsepower. Its an old joke from my quad riding days. We all used to laugh at all of the guys with a hundred stickers all over their quads. We used to say that stickers make you go faster! We even tried to convince one guy that they actually cut down wind resistance. We had him believing it for a while!

Just remember, you only get the increase in power if you apply all of the stickers they give you! Each sticker gives you 5% horsepower gain! It works on the powerband concept! LOL! :-)

Well I finally finished a more permanent mount for my FMF pipe.

I used a 1.25" handlebar clamp from Formotion Industries to suspend the pipe. This is a clamp that is used to mount clocks and thermometers on show bikes. Managed to pick it up on ebay for 9 bucks. I had to open up the mounting mole slightly for the mounting screw. It was advertised as a 1.25" clamp but it was little undersized for the roll cage. Once tightened it proved to be very tight and secure. I am pleased with the mount.

As far as attaching the silencer to the pipe, the pipe kit only came with a hose clamp that stripped out when I tried to tighten it. I elected to go with a T bolt clamp to secure the silencer to the pipe. They are 3/4" wide and can be tightened without worry of stripping. I did find some colored rubber mounting systems with hose clamps on each end for mounting silencers to pipes but they were in the $20 price range. The T bolt clamp was $5.

Hope this helps someone else with mounting.

Rand

Where did you buy the kit from? This is the cleanest FMF install I have seen thus far... Did you need to do anything to the DG pipe to get the FMF to attach properly other than a T clamp?

Welcome to the forums trailnablaze!

I bought this kit from ebay back in 2009 so the prices are going to be a little more expensive. The modifications I made was to hang the silencer using a 1.25" Harley Davidson handlebar accessory clamp that was made for a clock. There is not a lot of 1.25" diameter clamps out there that aren't sky high in price so I had to search around for a while. The rest of the mounting parts came with the kit except for the "T" clamp.

Here is a link to an FMF Turbine core that will slide right onto the end of a DG pipe that is sold by one of our board members that I believe goes by the name of Ridethedesert. If you PM him I'm sure he will cut you a deal.

He has a web site where he sells Ody parts.....www.Motorpsychosport.com

Here is a link to his FMF pipes on ebay.....

Here is the Final Final (LOL) installation of the FMF silencer.

I used one of the factory rubber mounts to assure the pipe was able to move so none of the welds would break.
