I know it's early but we're planning a Sunday Dec. 19th Ride. I'm thinking an nice Epic Ride would be a blast that time of year (maybe a waterfall/901 pub run?), maybe even catch some snow if we're lucky. I'm thinking St. Clair/Kaska area but I'm open to ideas. We've got a small handful from my side coming, I was hoping to catch up with some of the PO boys if you're up for it!

hmmm, sounds interesting.

We would need a fast crew with no slackers to get to epic levels, and we would need to stash 10 gals. ++ of fuel at distant locations, but from what i have rode recently there, it is still a do-able ride. I might even be able to throw a coal mine tour in there.

I'll be riding an atv with racks. If anyone has rack tanks (left mine in Hawaii) I can carry it along fuel so no need to stash. We many need two of them to to have enough for those cute little buggy cars you drive.

it all depends on the driver, Josh is pre qualified for the no slacker group

the only thing i wouldn't bring is a dirt bike, buggys and bike don't mix well, at least for the bikes

This ride is taking place for sure, it's happening Dec. 19th and the preliminary location is St. Clair are (Reading Anthricite). I don't knwo that the unload spot will be actually in St. Clair, further details will be layed out as we near the time of the ride. St. Clair is the general area.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... .0842&z=14" ."..

Im open to other locations though. I was thinking St. Clair just becuse I've done it so many times. I knew the area well but I've lived in Hawaii the last 5 years so I haven't ridden the trails up there in awhile. I'm hoping Hare or another knowledgeble person can go as lead. Either way I've got a small group planning to go. Without a lead like Hare it'll likly be a 30 - 50 mile day. With someone who knows the area better I think we can shoot for a really epic ride.

My group and I are flexable and would be happy to go elsewhere as long as it within a reasonable drive, we'll be coming from SE PA and NJ. I don't really care where I ride I just want a good day of riding.

to park at StClair you guys will need parking passes, its hard to park around there anymore without them, same with the big haul road where we used to park, they do come and check all day saturday and sunday. and there is little sense getting a pass until 2011 as they run Jan to Jan for $100.

all that being said i am game for a epic run there and have a plan in the works, just need to figure out the parking.

Also i hope to do a run before then too, say early Dec on a Sunday.

Parking is really going to be an issue, can we park at or near 901pub?

the 901 people don't want us to park in their lot, some people do park further back the road but i wouldn't feel comfortable there and the haul road we used to park off of is fine if you have the permit.

I havent had to worry about parking for a while so I am not up on the recent cool spots. I have seen guys park around new philly area but i know the cops and locals run them out every so often, anyways that's way out there too on the end of the loop.

Ask around see what you can find out, worse case is maybe your un permitted guys pile into one truck and we do a pass from a friend or something. or wait a couple more weeks and get the permits, it sucks having to be a Monday - Friday 8:am to 3:00pm but worth it not to worry. I know there are plenty of cool spots to park, i just don't know where they are.
We will get this done, btw find me a nice lot up there someplace, st clair towards tamaqua would be nice, someplace to park the RVs or maybe put a small house.

Hare, I PM'ed you a parking suggestion, if you want I can post it here but didn't want to raise flags.

On the topic of putting it off a few weeks, we already have scheduled days off, etc. so we're going either way but I'd also be up for ride in Jan/feb if with the PO guys if that is the consensus.

you could move it 25min west to Trevorton. no issues with parking and endless riding in a similiar environment. if you need any info on the trails let me know. if you want to "pre-run" just to check it out I will be riding there on sat nov 6th, more the merrier.

the parking plan sounds fine, basically drop off and go park at wally world, good idea, if i stumble across a better spot i will let everyone know.

Actually i am pretty sure Tevorton is owned by RAC too and the same rules apply there too, i think its more off the beaten path and RAC is not as concerned about it but i have heard of towing and guys getting kick out of there by police and such but same is true with the st clair area too.

And I am not knocking on the Tevorton spot, I really want to go there and soon. I am glad you are hooking us up. Hopefully it will be our alternative to the west MD ECJ, we can bring it back to PA where our first several ECJs were and increase our numbers beyond days of old. Tevorton sounds like the perfect spot for that and to ride. But for this I understand the ride Josh is asking for too. Its been a while since us east coast guys hit our PA Ride spot at speed.

We like to do long runs and with the st. clair area i know my way around fairly well and can travel far away destinations. We usually set it up as two different loops, stop at the bar for lunch, it makes for a very satisfying day, if things go well, early start, prepared people, few flats and mechanical problems we can get over 60 miles in a day.

Sounds like Asaszn and crew had to plan this far in advance to pull it off, a sunday is always better this hunting time of year but where we go it shouldn't matter much, snow on the other hand will make it a challenge.

Sounds like it'll be good ride! We've got 3 to 4 guys coming on my end. We're planning to do Cracker Barrel for breakfast (by Cabellas) everyone is welcome. Meeting time will be approx. 1.5 hours prior to our decided upon time ride time. As we get closer we'll need to decide on that time time and location.

A few of you guys the are better than me so perhaps someone can suggest a trailhead?

Hare and Mikey, are you guys still in? Like I said, we're doing it anyway but it would be great to see everyone again.

haven't heard any other recommendations so let's tenatively plan on meeting at 901. Maybe PilotDick can chime in after this weekend to confirm that it's okay for parking there?

As far as meeting time goes, 830am sounds good to me, don't want too late of a start. A few of us will be at Cracker Barrel around around 7am if anyone wants to join for breakfast, otherwise 901 at 830.

it wont take me much to say no but for now i am a go. we can park where ever but be sure to have enough fuel for a good refill 4 gals.

if we do 901 ( or even burma) I say we hit the old waterfalls first then refuel at the truck and do the pottsville loop with the stream crossing then thru Mattos and out to the far away pits with lunch at the bar in New Philly we may need to stash spare fuel or bring an extra gal per pilot. no clue what 4 wheelers need. this would be a good day, we would need to hit this early to make both otherwise one epic loop would be good too
