Had a great day of riding at RAC on Sunday! Quite cold, in the 20's all day but lots of fun, snow was still powdery and made for some fantastic throttle steering all day.
Funny start to the day, myself and two friends got to the 901 Pub at 7:45 for breakfast. The waitress came right up and asked where we planned to park our trailer, I assumed she was going to ask us to stay off their property so I told her we wouldn’t park on their nearby if she didn’t want us to. On the contrary, she said the owner wanted us to park in the lot next to the pub, he has it available to ATVers!! I've found my new home for breakfast and beers each time I ride RAC!! I'm baffled why more proprietors don't take this approach, what a great way to encourage loyal customers, but I digress. The funny part is this, shortly after we sat down a fella came in that I didn't recognize, he walked up and said, “are you guys here for the ride with the website group”, I said yea! I'm Josh, Asaszn, he said he wasn't on the site himself but came with a guy name Mike. I said Oh, of course, Mikey1234. A bit later another group came in I again introduced myself they and they said, that they heard Mike was bring his buddy Josh so it all made sense. Finally a guy came named Speedy who claimed to run the site, I said oh.. I thought that was Hoser.. he asked who Hoser was and I told him that he runs site where the ride was organized, Pilotodyssey.com... He said, No, Mike, his buddy Josh and the rest of us are here from speedballs.org for a ride. When Mikey1234 came in a minute later, it all made sense. We all had a good laugh and a good breakfast together while swapping riding stories.
We decided we'd join the speedballs group for the ride that day since they knew the area better than any of us. As we were unloading, Tripp and a friend showed up. We chose not to hold up the other group and waited for Tripp to unload. We all took off together (Mikey1234, Asaszn+2 and Tripp+1) and lost Tripp and friend within the first mile... Didn't see then again till we were loading up to go.
Mikey1234 served as our lead rider the whole day which was great, he was a fantastic lead. There were no injuries, two minor mechanical issues. First was loose chain on the 300ex due to a poor job of tighening it the nigh before (wonder who that idiot was?). We limped the quad to Walmart bought the hex keys we needed then were fixed and on or way. second was a tire puncture on my quad but wasn't anything a plug couldn't take care of. We covered a bit over 50 miles and all came home smiling (with chattering teeth)!
