Let's nail down a date. A few obstacles in April are the GNCC in SC (April 9-10) and Easter (April 24).

Looks like that leaves the weekend of April 15-17th.

How's that weekend work for everyone??

Hare - also arrange for no rain that weekend.

Promised the kids I woulden't be a total drag this year.
Checking out the P-RZR.
Will it keep up with the Pilots?
(2 up and bone stock?)

Correct - we are on for MD for the spring trip UNLESS we find a killer PA spot and all agree to change the venue.

It does sound like we have the spot in PA, well two even. So next is to say whether to hold both rides or just PA or just MD??

My first pick is Trevorton, PA, it is going to be a lot like old Blackwoods was back in the duct taped nipples days, that's a plus and a minus but with lots of entertainment.

what you all say?

As much as I love our MD spot, we are down with shaving a few hours off our drive and trying a new spot this spring.

I spoke to Richie and Marty we are all in agreement. Definately need to scout out the area in March to find a primo camp spot.

Alrighty then, I am sure Mikey and Mudd is on board and I assume you got Jumping JoeyD and the rest of your crew inline. I am sure the real Nor'easters like Massody, KX King and so on would be down with saving a few hours and flat tires.

So i say that's enough, hopefully everybody else can make it too. This should be a great spot to abuse the pilots and then get some last day action photos on the big hills.

heres a zoomed out road map

What is that large river to the east of Trevorton off rt 147? Any opportunity to camp along that river and ride to the ride spots?

that's the susquehanna , looks to be 10 or so miles away, but with it oh so green and unmolested its probably very dramatic and likely not makable without air support but i am willing to give it a go.

Looks to be a smaller creek running right thru the ride /camp area maybe we can get on the upstream side of that.

Hare,
Looking at the permits and rules for Reading Anthracite Company, they want $125 per person and the kids need Pa ATV safety training.

http://www.readinganthracite.com/access-permits/

Also, they say no camping on there property.
Do you guys have something worked out on the camping?
I think I need a little more information before committing to Trevorton.

I share your concern Lee as I will most likely have my three (all under 12) kids with me and I am just too darn old to be getting hassled by "the man". If you check out the other PA ride thread, it seems as though RA is a bit lax with enforcement to begin with and even more so as you head further from the Pottsville area. That said, I plan on purchasing a permit for myself however, since they have no option for kids, they will be there on the down-low. Worst case scenario, we get booted and find a nearby campground to regroup.

Our Mid-March scouting run will help us get a better read on things.

From the link above-

" No one under the age of 12 is allowed to ride on the property either on their own vehicle or riding with another individual."

I hear you all and agree entirely. Must be us and kid friendly

I say we set the date in stone and know we will have a NO BS place to go whether its Kitzmiller, MD or Trevorton, PA or Pottsville, PA or wherever. Again PA should be easy to pull off a nice spot so I say we plan for that. The rules really don't apply there, really nobody even need to get a pass, a few years from now they wll start enforcing but for now we should take advantage of Trevorton while we can. It will change soon.

If the location is the deciding factor for an indivdual then wait until some further scouting is done otherwise I say Plan for PA and fallback to Western MD.

Marty - the plan is head out Friday, March 18th, get our passes and then continue out to Trevorton to scout it out.
