The car is getting cut at the b-pillar (bar right behind the seat) and a whole new car will be built from the b-pillar forward. New cage and all.

Looks like it has as much or more bracing as a Pilot or Odyssey does.

Yup, probably not much would have helped with a big hit like that.

It has bracing but no enough. The upper section had no cross bracing and the frame is just mild steel yet the arms are chromoly. The arms proved themselfs to be strong and none of them bent or broke. The chassis will be x braced under the leg area and the top tied in as well so this doesnt happen again.

So why don't you use chromoly for the new section of the frame ?

Really the only good thing about a wreck are the lessons learned & analysis (and the video footage when available).

Seeing how that a-arm set pivoted and pushed-in the cage into the cockpit is scary. With some type of a cross-brace across the "hood" and some triangulation tying in that upper loop with the center loop, you may have either just sheared the spindle off. Or...maybe even ended up with more blunt force to yourself and the "next weakest point" on the chassis.

Always need to have an anticipated weak spot. But there's no effing way in hell anyone can ever predict and prevent every single type, angle, speed, etc of crash. Unless you have FEA software, perfect materials, perfect welds, and a lot of time. Otherwise, just got to over-build it a tad.

Its got me thinking more about my FL350's a-arm conversion plans...

How do you plan on grafting in a front frame section? Most sanctioning bodies don't allow any type of butt weld on a frame/cage to join two halves together. May be worth looking into before the time and money is spent to fix this one.

The series we race wont look for that and as long as you double Tube it at the seem ( sleeve ) It should be fine. I had to do that for Stock car front clips before.

The way the drak is built is with joint under the b-pillar so that's where it will be cut and sleaved and welded back together just like original.

I don't know about this ?

I endowed my 2003 Drakart Extreme last month 3 times in soft sand and my front left Arm broke clean in half.
I also managed to almost pull the forward mount of the trailing arm off the frame outside the weld.

This was a slower speed tumble down a dune @ LS - I still don't see how your left Arm survived a direct hit ?
I really wonder about its true integrity ?

DR
