Personally, I would stay clear of these. You would probably have to drop them off at my place to have them gone through. Who knows what or how well he did the modifications.

Thanks Rand. The thought of "more power!" looked entertaining but I will steer clear. I thought parts for those were more available than Pilot parts so I thought it might be worth it.
If the two stay around $8,000 though I might just have to take the half hour drive up to Shingle Springs!!!
Just remember quite often people are getting rid of something because the item has issues and they don't want to deal with them anymore or don't know how to deal with them. Maybe I'm wrong and he has simply lost interest or wants to step up to a sand rail or Razor, who knows but the seller himself.
Anyway.....
Remember, these engines were not designed to be used in a Pilot and many modifications have to be done to the Pilot to make them work correctly. There may be the chance that he used a kit such as the one Farr OFF Road has made. Only a close inspection of the Pilot will tell.

I agree, a closer inspection is needed before spending this kind of money. I also think that Rotax engines are known for reliability and getting parts is easy and affordable. With that said if the buyer doesn't have mechancal abilities... No way could or should these be purchased. Modified bugs are like older cars at times.... Grab a wrench and a beer because you might be doing both driving and wrenching 50/50 on a weekend. The Pilots listed are clearly one offs, he even tried to save some cash by using two Pilot radiators on one of them instead of purchasing a better setup.
So unless the buyer has the desire to learn the mechanics, a very helpful friend or the skill already to dive into the bugs... Stay away.... Without knowledge even bringing these to a shop could be disastrous ... The repair slip could be ridiculous. 1. The tech doesn't know the first thing about the setup and just starts wrenching and replacing or he tries to pull a fast one on the unknowing owner. Etc...
Regards.
