Okay my fl400 with comet clutch wont shift into drive gear unless you rev up the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )). You can push on the shifter and it wont go forward. Is that normal? Is there an adjustment or do I need to clean out the shifter/ any help would be appreciated thanks Glenn O.

My 89 does the same thing About 1/2 the time I need to rev it up a little before it will shift in. You can try lubing the cables and the lever itself sometimes they get a lot of dirt in there.

believe I looked it up and seems to be something 'normal' or at least not a big issue. I heard the 90s were better, not sure why, but Im not 100% sure. I'd say just change your oil more often and try not to let it grind.

Rock the Pilot forward or backward, then it will go right into gear.

Not really understanding this question.
Do you have a high stall/engagement spring in your clutch ??
Your transmission does not stay in gear ??
Not sure what you are asking.

Okay if you try to push the shifter into drive with the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) idiling it wont go into gear. If you rev up the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) it will go into gear and drive. Its like the shifter is stuck it moves a little foreward but wont go into drive Glenn O

What Randman and ZeroClient said.
All three of my FL350's are also like that 50% of the time.
Two of my machines shift very nice and the other one don't. The shifter is sticky on one. This could be several issues but it is very common to the Pilot and the oddy's. They also grind when you do this.
1) The dogs on the gears don't match until something is turning so that they can fall into position
2) The detent ball and spring are gummed up
3) You got rammy with the shifter and bent a shift fork
4) Cables out of adjustment
5) That's how they were from factory -- see #1

There is a adjustments on the cabels per manual.
Also when idoling see if your drive en is turning.
If not that may be part of your issue.
If you rev in netural a few hundred rpms it should engage the belt and get driven turning if so than find out why it will not when idoling. As your belt and drive wears this is common.
You can once started rev a little to get driven turning and then let it return to idol for a few seconds than it should drop right into gear if your cables are adjusted correctly.
If not find out why the driven is not turning smoothly.
I have seen the snap ring on the driven poop loose and drag and trans case.
In netural the driven should spin freely with little to no resistance.
