Congrats to Trackside, another dominate win, glad he don't make it to many races I'd never stand a chance. And thanks for putting this all together for us to enjoy. Even with the rain We had a Blast! Shame we didnt get to cook out and party the night away. Thanks for hooking us all up with transponders
Welcome and Congrats to Trackside's brother Roy for setting the two hottest laps times, one being almost 30 secs faster than the next closest rider trackside, if he keeps them wheels round there will be no touching him, maybe they can share some go fast secrets
heres mine road report
We get 9 pilots of only the hard core guys cause of the weather forecast, you know the list, they rest of you are gay with a capital G, a little rain never hurt anybody. The crowds were reserve, not much yelling or cheering not many epic type spots, just epic over all, this would been a crusher in heavy dust.
Terri and I get there late, imagine that, and can't get to our pit area cause of the races going on. Its off and on light rain most of the past 2 hours but eases up about an hour before the race, with little time to wait and lots of help from the guys we slam my pilot together with some last minute maintenance, change tire, ect. all ready by race time, just a mist in the air but the ground is plenty wet. At the riders meeting(at the start line) the trail boss talks up the rocky section. With a comforting southern draw his explains that we will rip the wheels off if we try to go fast through the 1 mile nasty rocks. trackside is also talking this up saying how much faster we can go after that section, well christ now I am ready for bolder fields the size of toyotas, rubicon rock crawling type stuff. whatever lets just go.
We line up in two rows, those with points and the rest of the mutts (stone trackside ect) ready to bite our asses off at the first road block. I line up inside and Mikey was outside, me seeing the error of my ways I switched to the outside durring the rolling start and mike got a little more outside to squared off the first turn. The announcer girl shouts 10 seconds, then the flag and away we go, I get the holeshot and stay first into the woods soon have mikey all over me, it opens back up and he is right there, he totally outbrakes me going into a turn and takes first place from me and then starts to pull away from me, I have nothing for him but i push as hard as i can knowing of all people I cant let mikey, 2nd in series point, get away from me but he getting away, they have one section of the course poorly marked where we spilt from the main ATV course both mikey and i screw up there but not long but long enough.
We come into another tight section with a real hard turn and a bunch of roots and ruts all over, Mikey gets caught in a tree and i end up up his ass, he cant move cause I have him penned in, it takes me a bit to get in reverse and by that time the rest of the pack has caught us. mikey gets out but i still having some issues and another one or two get by me, i mess up again and now FREAKING EVERYBODY has passed me except the girls (Abby and Terri). Now, as I see it, I am toast, On the first half of lap #1, I went from 1st to 6th with no hope of recovery, these guys just left me in their dust, well mud, and MIKEY only 2 points behind out in front, I drive on, disappointed in myself I get the first lap down. The good news was there were no nasty 3 point turns, No crazy ass toyota sized rocks, no death obstacles or risky hillclimbs. There are a few places to watch for, the rocky section had some sharp edge wheel benders, there was a big ledge type rock about one foot tall, but mainly it was stick to one edge or the other and roll when clear, had a couple mean kicker lips in a few spots, guess one of them got pilotguy5 flipping. Its a cool track maybe even too open, plenty of high speed stuff. I like sure like mud better than dust.
Lap 2 starts to go a little better but I get lost at that same place again and lose a good 30 seconds this time. Not happy I am playing out worse case scenarios for others. How can they go that fast, they are going to break something. Flats, a arms, electrical shorts, running into trees, blow the Engine, come on someone has to make this happen... damn it why aren't I seeing ANY OTHER PILOTS. Am I always this slow? You have to finish to win.You have to finish to win.You have to finish to win.
By the 4th lap at least I know where to go! Its better, I have my groove on feeling good and rolling well for once, funny thing about this race is that the UTVs stayed out in front a bit more so they werent the usual trail blockers. Instead the fast guys came around me freight training a pack of 3, they were nice and i got out of their way as soon as I could, all clean passes. I see Madmax limping in on one wheel, yes I think i am 5th now. The track has gotten pretty nice now, lots of things have flatten out, the good lines are clear to see, its raining steady but the roll off goggles are doing a great job. Time to go to work, I keep steady getting it even pass a UTV or two i figure any spots closer to Mikey will help me salvage the point series. the section before and after the halfway check you can absolutely fly on except this little 12" tall dirt diagonal step up, at speed it was dangerous, a killer, there was no way to square up on it and throttle to "jump" it, you just had to take it best you could, afterwards was another killer section that twisted gently up a hill that had a berm you could not fall out of, I could roll through there knowing it would hook up. Same can't be said for some other sections, the mudd had a grease like quality, almost hard and slick as ice. Still if you caught the tiniest of edges it would hold you through the turn. More wreckage this time around i see half a dozen cars laying trailside, but no pilots.
Down to last lap, I cant believe I seen little to NOBODY but I keep it on and i see a pilot up ahead i think its stoneman but when i close in its Mikey, he has no goggles, his vision is for shit he had to slow down lucky break for me! NOW I am happy agian , well at least i wasn't losing my point lead. Thinking i am catching up i try to push more but it makes no difference, I finish the race with absolutely NO CLUE where i finished except that it was ahead of Mikey. thank God. Mikey is a great sport and one hell of a racer, it is an honor to race with you and this wouldn't be anywhere near as fun without you thanks buddy.
John Dains (Trackside) is THE MAN again. 1st place and well deserved! He comes out with a stock pilot and spanks our asses consistently. Don't worry John I am working on getting me up to speed, I have researchers on it right now I wouldn't want you thinking you can win that easy.
