Our original plan (I will be with my two buddies John and Tom) was to leave here about 6 a.m. and head straight out to the Trevorton area and wait for the rest of the crew. I'll need a suggestion on where to park.

Joe, I'll coordinate with you and Rich to meet at Pottsville for a permit. Then link up with everyone else.

as long as its cool with tripp and mark, we could park there and try to find our way over to trevorton, unless its too cold for all that open riding, it probably be boring fire roads/power lines but good to know routes to distant locations. bad side is if we get side tracked by good trails and bars we might not get-r-done.

Nj rider - sounds good for the meet up, let's nail down the time.

Friday is looking like the best day of the week weather wise...high 67, low 48...shouldn't be an issue with the open roads....being sidetracked by sweet stuff or bars doesn't make us bad guys...just means we gotta come out again and scout out for ECJ....

P-nut, full throttle and Johnny boy are in? Sweet and sweet!!!

I have a wedding at 3pm on Saturday.....that just means I can't ride Saturday...doesn't mean I can't stay the night and laugh my ass off!!!

I'm down with whatever the group decides. I'd like to see Club 901 and it sounds like the perfect start/end point. One of my guys has no tag but he has a badge so that oughta work...

How about we all meetup at 9:30ish at club 901 and plan on setting out by 10? I'll need an exact address to the clubhouse.

edit by Hare:
for exact address / directions pm PilotDick or Hare

Trip won't be there but Matt will. He wants us to check out Club 901 see if we like it. Maybe become members to keep it small and in our group. Or not then they will open it to whoever. I am in I like the idea. I will not keep any of my toys there. I'll just be a member to the club and use the site for launching and the use of the clubhouse, camping ect, ect.
So see the rest of you there..................HARE don't forget the bottle jack.....

Hare (et al) - According to Google Maps, the distance from the clubhouse to Trevorton is 33 minutes and 21.8 miles (by paved road). So it's probably safe to assume that it would be at least 4 times that drive time by trail. Assuming we hit the dirt by 10 am, my concern is that we may not get out to Trevorton until well after noon which only leaves a few hours to scout before we have a 2 hour trek back to base camp.

I suggest we all meet up at the club around 9:30 or so and then drive (bikes in tow) to the Trevorton area to unload and explore. This plan also makes it much easier in the event of a breakdown (trucks will be closer) in addition, the two stroke guys won't have to carry as much oil. Plus we will have more time to chat with the locals for useful information.

Since this is primarily a scouting trip to secure a future ECJ location, we should plan on maximizing our scouting time. You guys can always blaze a trail from the club to Trevorton on Saturday if so desired.

Finally, if they are down with it, Matt and Ritchie can drive to Trevorton with us and ride the hills on their quads while we explore on bikes.

I am down with that, the club at 9:30 am Friday

looks like the closest part of trevorton trails are about 10 miles away from camp but with a state forest and farmland between so we couldnt ride trail on that part anyways, does look like plenty of backroads hard to tell if they go thru. hell yeah

Great ride - 6 hours of wide open trail running with only a few minor scrapes. My buddy John cracked a the right side case on his 2004 RMZ250, puking oil all over the place. It wasn't from any sort of impact and, according to Suzuki, it's from kicking the bike too hard... WTF?? Apparently this is a common problem among these bikes the side case cracks from top to bottom in the area around the kick start shaft. I'll be pulling that apart to repair soon.

My other friend Tom had quite the dramatic spill on his KTM 250exc luckily both he and his ride emerged unscathed.

We had lunch here here:

Bowery
400 West Market Street, Trevorton, PA 17881-1557
(570) 797-3349

Great wings, burgers, and brew. Definately recommended eats when in Trevorton. Biker friendly.

From left to right... Marty (NJRider), Ritchie (PilotDick), Marc (Pnut), Joe (Hare), Joe (CafeRcr), Tom (WOT (Wide Open Throttle)), and Matt (cookie monster). Not pictured is my buddy John (no nickname yet but we shall call him "leaky").

Hey jersey guys, looking at directions and being too treverton only once, would it be easier to take 78 west to 81 north? Instead of going 78 to 61 to 81s to trev? The interstate travel versus the backspace on 61? Just wondering if I'm the only one thinking about that. Mapquest says I'm only 2 hrs if I use 61. I gotta try to cut travel time since my sons tee ball game is at 2pm that Saturday of he ECJ. Going to be heading up after and I don't think it will be easy to find yous in the dark. Thanks Kevin

Nice to see some familiar faces - and hare lurking in the background - hiding the keg no doubt.

What about some ride pics?

Scouting went well, Joe (Hare) must be part bloodhound because he always seems to know which way to go. We staged at the "treehouse", unloaded and rode a few miles of pavement to a trailhead and then it was all trails from there. Not sure if there is an "all trail" option for non-streetable machines. Ritchie and Matt stayed near camp and headed south on ATVs into the regular play areas.

Joe and Marty also rode Saturday, I'm hoping to hear more from them on how that trip went.

yeah we had a blast!!!

and we did make it to trevorton from the treefort, i got lucky a few times on getting there, Pnut was the master directioner, he asked a local where and how to get that way, we followed his directions and found the trail just after the gas station on High Rd. All I did was to turn us around when we started going the wrong direction.

Tevorton is epic but we didnt spend enough time to secure the safe location.

As far as the spring ECJ Pilot ride goes, I want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable with whatever digs we choose and if the spot isnt acceptable for kids as well then its not a really place I want to have my toys around, or our ECJ around, rough stuff (people or places) is fine for a pack of motorcycle guys but not for a family weekend, which is how ECJ should be.

With that said, I still think we can find a spot everybody would enjoy and be/feel safe at. And i totally agree with the important aspects of a safe camp, a swimming hole and so on. I do plan to go up one more time during the weekend and see and secure an actual parking, camping, recreating and riding areas.

I had a blast this weekend, especially Friday. We were close by when we drove through Trevorton but when i went back saturday night all the trucks were headed to and coming from another area we didnt pass by which seemed like the main area, could be just a party area but having the motorhome and all I didnt want to risk it by scouting around. and i didnt go to that guy Steeley's to follow up either, it didnt seem like too good of a spot anyways, too far on a that gravel road for the ride area and then living among the trailer people, it would be a bail out option at best.

On the positive side, on staurday i found out more about that campground on Peach Mnt(other side of Rt.61 from Burma RD, 901 side, our old ridng area) it is ATV and family friendly and connects to the RAC trails we know well, i hear they want $1,000. a year for a camp site (way too much) but i was hoping he may work us a deal for a long weekend of primitive, camping or maybe a few of us go in together, not sure on the amenities but typically they are on a river or lake with other recreations options available.

on Saturday we also met a very nice hippie couple at the bar that lives near New Philly and knows a land owner that may be willing to have us, they say his pet peeve is trash, well we got that covered, we exchanged phone numbers lets hope it works out.

again its totally cool on Maryland or whatever but i do still hope to find a ECJ/Kids friendly spot up PA so maybe just not fully commit yet, say leave it WMD tentative with a possibility of PA if a suitable site is found

i have no intent of stopping to go to Kitzmiller, but since i don't do the quad thing much, I rather wait until the warm weather comes to enjoy its features, say May or by June for sure and definitely always keeping the Fall ECJ there as long as they will have us.
