As far as the spring ECJ Pilot ride goes, I want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable with whatever digs we choose and if the spot isnt acceptable for kids as well then its not a really place I want to have my toys around, or our ECJ around, rough stuff (people or places) is fine for a pack of motorcycle guys but not for a family weekend, which is how ECJ should be.
With that said, I still think we can find a spot everybody would enjoy and be/feel safe at. And i totally agree with the important aspects of a safe camp, a swimming hole and so on. I do plan to go up one more time during the weekend and see and secure an actual parking, camping, recreating and riding areas.
I had a blast this weekend, especially Friday. We were close by when we drove through Trevorton but when i went back saturday night all the trucks were headed to and coming from another area we didnt pass by which seemed like the main area, could be just a party area but having the motorhome and all I didnt want to risk it by scouting around. and i didnt go to that guy Steeley's to follow up either, it didnt seem like too good of a spot anyways, too far on a that gravel road for the ride area and then living among the trailer people, it would be a bail out option at best.
On the positive side, on staurday i found out more about that campground on Peach Mnt(other side of Rt.61 from Burma RD, 901 side, our old ridng area) it is ATV and family friendly and connects to the RAC trails we know well, i hear they want $1,000. a year for a camp site (way too much) but i was hoping he may work us a deal for a long weekend of primitive, camping or maybe a few of us go in together, not sure on the amenities but typically they are on a river or lake with other recreations options available.
on Saturday we also met a very nice hippie couple at the bar that lives near New Philly and knows a land owner that may be willing to have us, they say his pet peeve is trash, well we got that covered, we exchanged phone numbers lets hope it works out.
again its totally cool on Maryland or whatever but i do still hope to find a ECJ/Kids friendly spot up PA so maybe just not fully commit yet, say leave it WMD tentative with a possibility of PA if a suitable site is found
i have no intent of stopping to go to Kitzmiller, but since i don't do the quad thing much, I rather wait until the warm weather comes to enjoy its features, say May or by June for sure and definitely always keeping the Fall ECJ there as long as they will have us.
