I have a fl350 that the Powerbloc clutch blew up on. I was going to put the Comet 102c from my other one on it and ,if my son liked the setup, buy another 102. When attempting this I found out that the threads are just about gone in the output shaft on the Engine. You can stick the 100 mm bolt in close to a half an inch before it grabs any threads. Has anyone ever tried anything to remedy this without doing a complete tear down and replacing the shaft? Healy coils? drill and tap to a bigger size? I think the 102 would allow for a little bigger. I could make a stud, screw it in,
weld it and use a nut to hold the clutch on if I never ever wanted to take the clutch off again. Doesn't sound like a great plan. There isn't a thing wrong with this Engine if I could tighten up the clutch. I haven't seen anybody on here wanting to give away perfect running 350 engines so I guess I'll have to fix it somehow. Ha Ha. All suggestions welcome.

I don't see why a heli-coil would not work.

Speedchaser have any thoughts on this ? (resident expert machinist, Pilot Odyssey savor)

Any pictures of the blown up clutch? don't toss it their might be parts someone else can salvage and use.

Thanks Hoser
First I would see if a longer Bolt will work there is about 68mm ( 2-5/8") of thread in the crank shaft end on a fl350

second if the first one did not work out I would see if you can tap the hole deeper if needed 12mm x 1.25 tap
thread your bolt in as far as it will go then measure how deep it went in.
then Measure how deep the hole is with some thing smaller then the bolt.
If there is extra depth there get a bottoming tap or grind one down so you can tap to the bottom of the hole
then use a longer bolt

Thanks for the suggestions. I had no idea the threads went that deep. I tried tapping it out but the threads must be screwed up about an inch in. The tap started turning real hard and it wasn't a quality enough tap to push it. I will put the clutch pics on here once I am sure that I'm not going to try and repair it. Thanks guys. Members need to know that Fastenal has or will get about any bolt you need for a reasonable price.

Thanks guys. I finally got around to tapping the shaft deeper and buying a longer bolt. It had been repaired before and not correctly.
Anyway it worked great and has plenty of good threads now.

Can't post pics right now. Camera broken too. It was a powerbloc and the bolt pulled through the front cover. It flew apart and I found all the parts but one weight that holds the pucks has an ear broken off of it also. I will post pics soon.
